Student answer (Band 6.0)

In today's interconnected world, different countries are connected to each other for various functions such as business, technology and labor. Therefore, connections among them should remain healthy for better functioning. Some people believe that international events such as The Olympics and World Cup keeps the relations between the countries healthy, whereas others say that it creates a sense of competition rather than building friendship. This essay will discuss both these views along with my opinion that why i believe international sports events are important.

On the one hand, international sports events are the great opportunity for the representatives of various countries to meet with others. This kind of social events helps them to have a conversation and resolve an ongoing issue, if there is any kind of tension going on among them. Morever, these events such as The Olympics and World Cup are the sign of Unity and are organised in purpose to improve relations between countries. Additionally, sports plays an important role in every individual's life. These events are not helpful only for governments but also for the citizens, while watching these games people get to know about other countries and build sense of friendship. For example, people in India are big fan of Ronaldo and Messi, due to which they begin to know about Argentina and Portugal.

on the contrary, sports events sometimes create a sense of competition among various countries, which builds rage in some people towards other countries due to loss. For instance, based on recent hockey match in june,2026 between Canada and United States. In which Canada won and people from States started trolling Canada about previous defeats. As a result, Social media War and rage between them started.

To conclude, although losing a match sometimes create a rage among some people. overall it still connects various countries to each other and build sense of freindship among citizens.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.0

You address both views and give a clear overall position: you acknowledge that losing can provoke hostility, but conclude that events generally connect countries and citizens. The first view is supported with relevant points about representatives meeting and fans learning about other nations; the Messi and Ronaldo example makes this more concrete. The opposing view is also illustrated through reactions to a hockey result. However, some ideas are asserted rather than fully explained: for example, the claim that officials can resolve tensions at sporting events needs a clearer explanation or example, and the social-media incident is not developed beyond describing trolling. Explain more precisely how each example demonstrates either friendship or rivalry, and make your own position explicit earlier as well as in the conclusion.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.5

The response has a coherent overall arrangement: an introduction, a paragraph for each view, and a conclusion. Signposting such as “On the one hand,” “on the contrary,” and “To conclude” helps readers follow the discussion, and the examples are placed alongside the relevant arguments. This already gives the essay a clear progression. Some connections are less smooth or precise, however. The opening moves from general international connections to sports without a strong link, while “This kind of social events” and “In which Canada won” interrupt the flow. The contrast marker “on the contrary” is also less suitable than “On the other hand” here. Use clearer links between claims and examples, and avoid sentence fragments so that cohesion feels less mechanical.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.5

You use a relevant range of topic vocabulary, including “international sports events,” “tension,” “competition,” “citizens,” and “social media,” which allows you to discuss both cooperation and rivalry. Some less common expressions are attempted, such as “interconnected world” and “sense of competition,” but word choice and collocation are often imprecise. For example, “the sign of Unity” and “organised in purpose” do not sound natural in context, while “builds rage” and “Social media War” are awkward or overly dramatic. There are also spelling and form slips, including “Morever” and “freindship.” Aim for accurate, natural collocations and consistent capitalization; this will make your meaning more precise without requiring more complicated vocabulary.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5

You attempt both simple and complex sentence forms, including clauses with “whereas,” “while,” and “although,” and most of the main ideas remain understandable. However, some errors in agreement, articles, sentence boundaries, and verb forms reduce accuracy. For instance, “events … keeps” should use a plural verb, and “sports plays” should be “sports play.” “This kind of social events” has a mismatch between the determiner and noun, while “In which Canada won” is a fragment rather than a complete sentence. The conclusion also has agreement problems in “losing a match sometimes create” and “it still connects … and build.” Review subject–verb agreement and check that each sentence has a complete main clause. More accurate control of these patterns would strengthen your varied sentence attempts.
