Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 3.5
You attempt to discuss both views and state a position in the opening with “I’m concerned I’m in latter notion,” but this position is difficult to interpret and is not maintained clearly. The response gives only brief, repetitive reasons: the first body paragraph says competition occurs because sport is competitive, while the next suggests competition can benefit a country. These points are relevant, but neither view is explained with a clear example or developed reasoning, and the conclusion does not resolve your opinion. The response is 182 words, below the required 250; 37 words copied from the task prompt were excluded from the count. To improve, explain how events can foster contact and mutual respect, then how national rivalry can create tension, and support each point with a specific example.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 3.5
There is an attempt at an essay structure, with an introduction, two body paragraphs and a conclusion, and phrases such as “To commence with” and “In conclusion” signal stages of the response. However, progression is difficult to follow because ideas are repeated rather than developed. For example, the first body paragraph repeats the claim that events create competition several times, while “shifting the final words” does not clearly introduce the contrasting view. The relationship between the two views and your own position is also unclear, and some references such as “this” and “they” have uncertain meanings. Use one paragraph for each view, connect each reason to its explanation, and finish with a conclusion that clearly states your judgement.
Lexical Resource: Band 4.5
You use some vocabulary relevant to the topic, including “international sports events,” “competition,” “countries,” and “future,” so the reader can identify the general subject. However, the range is narrow and key words are repeated frequently, especially “competition,” “country/countries,” and “sports.” Several phrases are inaccurate or unnatural, such as “the latter notion,” “competition sports,” and “competition makes good life of the country,” which make your intended meaning less precise. Spelling and word-form errors, including “commance,” “creats,” and “cupthey,” also reduce control. Build a small set of accurate topic phrases and use them in context—for example, “foster international understanding,” “national rivalry,” and “host nation”—rather than repeating the same basic terms.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 4.5
You attempt both simple and longer sentence forms, including a conditional example beginning “if people played these international sports events,” and you use some sentence-opening transitions. However, control is inconsistent: errors in agreement and verb forms appear in “events creats” and “these sports is,” while sentence boundaries and punctuation are often unclear. The opening contains a run-on sequence, and the final sentence joins “world cup” directly to “they are,” making the structure difficult to parse. Articles and plural forms are also unreliable, as in “a good way to bring countries.” Practise building complete sentences with a clear subject and verb, checking agreement and articles, and separating independent clauses with full stops. More accurate control of these patterns would make your ideas easier to understand.
