Student answer (Band 5.5)

In this global era, countries comes together and participate in different sports and players represent and compete for their country. Although, some people says such competitions are not friendly and other says it is a better alternative to bring all nations together. In upcoming paragraphs, I will elaborate both viewpoints, followed with my own opinion.

To initiate with, international sports events and world cup works as aid for host country. International sports events not only create employment but also provide global recognition, and this can significantly contribute to economy. Moreover, global event means boost in tourism, it has direct positive impact on per capita income. If government and designated legal bodies takes appropriate measures to organize world sports events, they can significantly generate revenue, which would ultimately benefit everyone.

Therefore, it cannot be ignored that a group of audience thinks, sports events have more demerits than merits. Although, global sports events may offer numerous advantages, it can also negatively impact individuals' overall well-being, particularly when it is used as competition excessively.

Lastly, as per my personal understanding such sports events bring people together. In addition, tourists learn local culture, enjoy traditional food. For instance, during cricket world cups fans travel across the world not only to watch match but explore different country, meet new people, spend money, and local traditional food.

To conclude, it has more advantages and should be organized more often. Though, it does require fighting and do not giveup spirit but with healthy compitition. Most of the time fans their favoirate celebrity from different country, as they choose they on based on their performance, not as per country.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.5

You give a clear overall view that international sports events can bring people together, and you include relevant points about tourism, cultural exchange and economic benefits. However, the discussion does not fully address the two views in the prompt: the claim that events create competition rather than friendship is only briefly mentioned as “more demerits than merits,” without explaining how rivalry or national tensions might arise. The economic benefits to host countries also take up much of the response and do not directly develop both sides of the question. Your example of cricket fans travelling is relevant, but its connection to friendship between countries could be explained more explicitly. Develop each viewpoint with a reason and a specific example, then state your position consistently.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.0

The response has an introduction, body paragraphs and a conclusion, and signposts such as “To initiate with,” “Lastly” and “To conclude” show an attempt to guide the reader. However, the overall progression is not always clear: the second body paragraph shifts to the economic benefits of hosting, while the next briefly mentions disadvantages without explaining them. The paragraph beginning “Lastly” returns to the view that events unite people, so the two sides are not organised into a clear comparison. Some linking phrases feel mechanical or do not accurately express the relationship between ideas, such as “Therefore” before the disadvantages paragraph. Group the arguments by viewpoint and use clear references and transitions to show how each point supports your discussion.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.5

You attempt a range of topic-related vocabulary, including “global recognition,” “employment,” “tourism,” “per capita income” and “healthy competition.” These choices show some awareness of formal language and the subject matter. However, several word choices and collocations are inaccurate or unclear, which sometimes makes the intended meaning difficult to follow. For example, “sports events works as aid for host country” and “global event means boost in tourism” are not natural expressions, while “fans their favoirate celebrity” is unclear. Spelling errors such as “compitition,” “favoirate” and “giveup” also reduce accuracy. Aim for precise, natural phrases and check spelling; for example, describe events as “boosting tourism” or “fostering cultural exchange.”

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0

You attempt both simple and more complex sentence forms, including the conditional structure “If government and designated legal bodies takes appropriate measures…” and the contrast introduced by “Although.” However, errors in agreement, sentence construction and punctuation are frequent enough to make some sentences difficult to understand. Examples include “countries comes together,” “some people says,” and “events … works,” where the subject and verb do not agree. The opening “Although” is incorrectly separated from the main clause, and the final sentence, “Most of the time fans their favoirate celebrity from different country,” lacks a clear grammatical structure. Practise checking each sentence for a complete subject and verb, correct agreement, and a clear connection between dependent and main clauses.
