Student answer (Band 6.0)

Some people argue that international sports events such as The Olympics or the Football World Cup, are a better way of bringing nations together because players spend more time together. However, others believe that such events create competition, not frienship, between countries because they represent their own countries. I personally believe that these events bring countries together and maintain a healthy relationship.

To begin with, some people believe that international sports events, such as The Olympics or The Soccer are a better way of bringing different countries together. This is because these events let the players to spend more time with the other players. Therefore, they spend more time in understanding their different cultures, languages and clothings. Additionally, the players show respect and regards to the opponent teams players. For example, an Indan Cricket team may play against The Pakistan Team but during the match both teams spend a healthy conversation with each other. As a result, After the match, the players may explore other country's markets and buy some clothings for them.

On the other hand. others argue that such kinds of events often bring competition between coutries because each country players are representing their nations. This is due to their dedication for the countries and always try to win the match. Moreover, sometimes during the match, players have been seen involving in verbal arguments with the opponent team. Therefore, their ego clashes and create competition between countries. For example, The Australian Cricket Team and The England Cricket team have been rivalries for years. As a result, the players often seen agressive on the field and try to win the tournament at any cost.

To conclude, although some people believe that international sports events create competition between countries, I believe it is a better way of promoting sports and bringing various nations together.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.0

You address both views and state a clear opinion: you argue that sports events bring nations together, while explaining that national representation can also intensify competition. The examples of India–Pakistan and Australia–England cricket help make the discussion relevant. However, the two sides are not developed equally: the friendship argument includes players learning about cultures and interacting after matches, whereas the competition side relies mainly on national dedication, verbal arguments and rivalry. The conclusion repeats your position but does not add much synthesis. To strengthen the response, explain more fully how sporting contact can build lasting relations, and distinguish sporting rivalry from hostility between whole countries. The response meets the task’s length requirement; 28 words copied from the prompt were excluded from the count.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.5

The response has a clear overall structure: an introduction, one paragraph for each view, and a conclusion. The progression from the first perspective to the opposing one is easy to follow, and linking expressions such as “To begin with,” “On the other hand” and “As a result” help signal relationships between ideas. This meets the lower-band expectation of coherent organisation and shows some of the flexibility associated with stronger cohesion. However, several links feel mechanical or do not clearly express the relationship between claims; for instance, “Therefore” before the players’ “ego clashes” does not make the cause-and-effect connection precise. The sentence beginning “On the other hand. others” also disrupts the transition. Use fewer formulaic connectors and make each link between evidence and its point explicit.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.0

Your vocabulary is sufficient to communicate the main ideas, with relevant terms such as “opponent teams,” “representing their nations” and “verbal arguments.” However, the range is limited and several noticeable word-choice, collocation and spelling problems reduce precision. “The Olympics or The Soccer” is an unclear and inaccurate reference to the events, while “healthy conversation” and “buy some clothings” are unnatural expressions. There are also spelling errors such as “frienship,” “coutries,” “Indan” and “agressive.” These do not prevent the reader from understanding the overall argument, but they make the writing less fluent and precise. Build a wider set of natural phrases for international relations and sporting rivalry, and proofread carefully for spelling and word forms.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5

You use a mix of simple and complex sentence forms, including clauses introduced by “because,” “although” and “while,” and most ideas remain understandable. Some grammatical errors occur, but they rarely prevent communication. For example, “let the players to spend” should be “let the players spend,” and “each country players are representing” needs a possessive form and a more suitable verb construction. In “the players often seen aggressive,” the verb “are” is missing. Punctuation also needs attention: “On the other hand. others” should be joined and capitalised correctly, and “As a result, After the match” has an unnecessary capital. Practise accurate verb patterns, possessives and complete verb phrases while retaining your attempts at complex sentences.
