Student answer (Band 5.5)
A different perspective of society about bringing different countries together, some argue that The Olympics and The Football World Cup are the best way to bring them together, some argue that it only create competitions between them. In my opinion, I strongly believe that these are the best way to have connections between different countries.
Firstly, these international sports event can strengthen the relationship of different countries. These create healthy connections by competing with each other in a different form of competition, rather than showing different lethal technologies. For instance, instead of creating a war that can affect millions. We can compete through healthy physical activities like international sports events, these are forms of healthy competitions that result to connections from their reasports.
Secondly, these sports events have been inspiring people to promote improving their physical well-being. A healthy physical well-being promotes productivity, such as doing physical and mental activities. For example, people seeing these athletes perform and achieving their dreams through sports motivate these people to be active and do their hobbies. As a result, they tend to be productive and socialize with others through different sports.
On the other hand, others believe that these create an unhealthy competition and not friendship with the competitors. I do not stand firm with this belief because those competitions need someone to win and the others are loss. Those who loss are inspired to work hard and to prove that they can win too. They tend to keep up with those countries and learn from their mistakes.
In conlusion, these competitions do not create hatred instead these create connections with the other countries to promote being healthy with themselves and inspire the society to take care of their physical and mental well-being.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.5
You give a clear opinion that international sports events build connections, and you discuss both the positive view and the concern that competition may weaken friendship. The first body paragraph offers a relevant contrast between sporting contests and war, while the final paragraph explains why losing teams might be motivated to improve. However, the discussion of the opposing view is brief, and the claim that these events promote physical well-being does not directly explain how they bring countries together. Several points remain general rather than being supported with a specific example or fuller explanation. Develop both sides more evenly, and connect each supporting point explicitly to relationships between nations.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.0
The response has a recognisable structure: an introduction, separate body paragraphs, a paragraph presenting the opposing view, and a conclusion. Sequencing words such as “Firstly,” “Secondly,” and “On the other hand” help readers follow the main stages. Overall, the ideas are arranged coherently, but some links are mechanical or unclear. For example, “These create healthy connections” does not clearly identify what “These” refers to, and the shift from international relations to individual health in the second body paragraph weakens progression. The conclusion repeats the central claim without drawing together the two views. Use clearer references and make each paragraph’s main point build directly on the essay question.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.0
You use some relevant topic vocabulary, including “international sports events,” “competitors,” “athletes,” and “physical well-being,” and you attempt more formal expressions such as “promote” and “productivity.” However, the range is limited and several word choices or collocations are inaccurate or repetitive. “Create competitions” is less natural than “foster competition,” while “the others are loss” and “those who loss” show difficulty selecting the correct forms. “Their reasports” is unclear, and “conclusion” is misspelled as “conlusion.” Aim for precise, natural phrases and check spelling and word forms; this will make your ideas easier to understand and more convincing.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0
You attempt both simple and longer sentences, using structures such as “because” and “rather than,” and the overall meaning is usually recoverable. However, control is inconsistent, particularly in longer sentences. The opening is a sentence fragment, and “some argue that it only create competitions” has a subject–verb agreement error. In “these international sports event can strengthen,” the plural subject requires a plural noun form. The sentence beginning “For instance, instead of creating a war” is also incomplete, and several clauses are joined with commas where a full stop or conjunction is needed. Practise building complete sentences with clear subjects and verbs, then check agreement and punctuation in complex sentences.
