Give reasons for your answer and include any relevant examples from your own knowledge or experience.
Student answer (Band 6.0)
Some people maintain that the golbal sports events are beneficial to enhance the relationship between countries, whereas others contend that these events increase the disagreements between countries. Although both views have some merit, I firmly believe that international sports events make people around the world closer and it could help the countries to create new friendships.
On the one hand, supporters of view that golbal sports events could create competition between countries believe that people who enjoy these competitions could fight about the final results. For example, when an important match held between two popular national teams, the cistizins of bouth countries will support their team to win at the match. As a result, if any of these teams lost the game, people would disagree about the result and many issues could happen between the both countries. Therefore, it is understandable why some people hold this view.
On the other hand, I am convinced that international sports games such as The Olympics or the Football World Cup could enhance the relationships between nations. The main reason for that is these events are extremely important to gather people from all the countries around world. Many people during these events learn about othere cultures, leading to sharing the habits, traditions, food, and languages between people. Moreover, this events enhance the economy of the countries through several ways, such as tourism and education. Consequently, people from different countries and backgrounds will make new friendships, and this can have a major effect on friendship between countries.
In conclusion, despite some issues could happen during these events, I strongly believe that international sports events strengthen the relationship between nations. Therefore, global sports competitions should be supported govenments.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.5
You address both views and make your own position clear: you acknowledge that sporting results can cause disagreement, then argue that international events build relationships. The examples about supporters reacting to a lost match and visitors learning about other cultures are relevant to the question. This meets the core requirements, and the position remains consistent in the conclusion. However, the competition argument is less fully developed: the claim that disputes may lead to “many issues” between countries is not explained or illustrated further. The benefits paragraph also lists economic effects without showing clearly how tourism or education strengthens international friendship. Develop these links with a specific example or explanation to make the discussion more complete.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.5
The response has a clear overall structure, with an introduction, separate paragraphs for the two views, and a conclusion. Its progression is easy to follow, and signposts such as “On the one hand,” “On the other hand,” and “In conclusion” help readers identify each stage of the argument. Some connections are less precise or feel mechanical, however. For example, “Therefore” follows a hypothetical disagreement without fully clarifying how it supports the opposing view, while “Consequently” introduces a broad conclusion about friendship that is not fully established by the preceding economic point. References such as “this events” also make the link to the ideas less smooth. Use cohesive devices selectively and make each cause-and-effect connection explicit.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.5
You use relevant topic vocabulary, including “international sports events,” “national teams,” “traditions,” and “tourism,” and you attempt more formal expressions such as “enhance the relationships.” This gives you enough range to discuss the topic, but inaccurate spelling and word choice are noticeable and sometimes distract the reader. Examples include “golbal,” “cistizins,” “bouth,” and “govenments”; “disagreements” is also less precise than “rivalry” in this context. Some combinations sound unnatural, such as “fight about the final results” and “effect on friendship between countries.” Aim for accurate spelling and natural collocations, and choose precise terms for the relationship between sporting rivalry and international relations.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5
You use a mix of simple and complex sentence forms, including a concession in the introduction (“Although both views have some merit”) and a conditional example (“if any of these teams lost the game”). Most ideas remain understandable, but some grammatical errors recur. In “when an important match held,” the verb needs a passive form (“is held”); “this events” has a number-agreement error; and “support their team to win” needs a more suitable construction, such as “support their team in winning.” The conclusion’s “despite some issues could happen” also needs restructuring, for example, “although some issues could arise.” Work on verb forms, agreement, and clause patterns to make complex sentences more consistently accurate.
