Student answer (Band 5.5)

People have their different opinions related to the sports events that are being played in the global level. Some of them think that it is way to bring people of the countries together while others oppose by saying that it generates the feeling of competition by keeping the friendship aside. This essay will discuss the both the prospective and my personal view on it.

On the one side, such events invites the people of all the countries and give them a chance to know and learn from each other which brings the opportunity to improve themselves and become so perfect into their game. Moreover, it is a platform which not only allows the players but invite the visitors to visit from the other countries and explore the new country, through which to meet a lot of people which helps them to improve their skills like confidence, decision making etc.

On the other hand, players take such an event as competition rather than having such a concept in their mind that only one person can win, they try their level best to beat others and sometimes it is also seen that they uses foul tactics so that they could win. In spite of this people who came to watch the sports are so much indulge in it that if there countries lose then they try to fight with the people of countries and ruined the importance of the event.

In my opinion, this sort of event without the audience and players should be warned to play seriously and friendly without any wrong strategy of hurting someone else.

To conclude, people who are so involved into the game will treat it as a competition as they only wants the players to win by hook or by crook but one should follow the rules and regulations and take it as a platform to learn and improve the game skills.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.0

You address both views: the first body paragraph presents international events as opportunities for cultural exchange and learning, while the second explains how intense competition and spectators’ reactions can lead to conflict. Your conclusion also gives a view that events should be friendly and follow the rules. However, the position is not fully clear: the sentence beginning “In my opinion” is difficult to interpret, and it does not directly explain whether these events bring countries together overall. Several points, such as players learning from one another and fans fighting, are asserted rather than supported with a specific example or fuller explanation. State your overall judgement clearly and develop each main point with a concrete example.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.0

The response has a coherent overall arrangement, with an introduction, separate paragraphs for the two views, a personal-opinion paragraph and a conclusion. Signposts such as “On the one side,” “On the other hand,” and “To conclude” help readers follow the discussion. However, some connections are mechanical or unclear. For example, “In spite of this” does not clearly show how the point that players try to win relates to the following point about spectators. The opinion paragraph also feels detached from the discussion, and the conclusion repeats the idea of following rules without clearly resolving the two views. Use clearer links between cause and effect, and make the opinion paragraph build directly on the arguments already presented.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.0

You use some relevant topic vocabulary, including “foul tactics,” “audience,” “rules and regulations,” and “decision making,” so the reader can understand the general subject. However, the range is limited by repeated, broad wording such as “people,” “event,” and “game,” and several phrases are inaccurate or unnatural, including “played in the global level,” “the both the prospective,” and “so much indulge in it.” These choices sometimes make the intended meaning harder to follow, particularly in the opinion paragraph. Aim for more precise collocations and vary key terms—for example, distinguish between athletes, spectators, national teams and international tournaments—while checking that each phrase sounds natural in context.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0

You attempt a mixture of simple and longer sentences, including clauses with “while,” “which,” and “if,” and the overall meaning is usually recoverable. However, complex sentences are often faulty, and errors occur across the response. Examples include “such events invites” (subject–verb agreement), “they uses” and “they only wants” (agreement), and “if there countries lose” (incorrect possessive form). Articles and sentence construction also need attention, as in “it is way to bring” and “without the audience and players should be warned,” where the relationship between ideas is unclear. Practise building accurate sentences with one main clause and a clearly connected subordinate clause, then check agreement, articles and punctuation.
