Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 3.0

The response begins to address the topic by introducing both views: international tournaments may encourage friendship, while competition may create rivalry. However, neither view is explained or supported, and the essay stops after the opening of a first supporting point (“the global challenge games will show sportsmanship”). Your own opinion is also not stated, despite the task explicitly asking for it. The response is therefore only a minimal and incomplete answer to the prompt. It also falls 157 words short of the required minimum, leaving too little space to discuss both sides, give reasons and examples, and reach a conclusion. To improve, develop each viewpoint in a separate paragraph, add a relevant example, and state your position clearly.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 4.5

There is a basic attempt to organise the response: the opening introduces the two positions, and “To begin with” signals the start of a supporting point. This gives the reader some indication of direction. However, the response ends before the argument develops, so there is no clear progression through both views or a conclusion. The opening sentence is also difficult to follow because several ideas are crowded together, and the transition “In this essay will…” does not form a clear sentence. Build a simple structure with an introduction, one paragraph for each view, and a conclusion. Use linking phrases to show relationships between ideas, rather than relying on a single opening transition.

Lexical Resource: Band 4.5

The response attempts topic-related vocabulary, including “global tournaments,” “sportsmanship,” “friendship,” and “rivalry,” so the reader can identify the general subject. It also tries to use more formal expressions such as “considerable debate.” However, spelling errors and inaccurate word combinations frequently weaken clarity: “recents year,” “soccor,” “rivelry,” and “collabration” are examples, while “the best source towards friendship” is not a natural collocation. The vocabulary range is also difficult to demonstrate fully because the response is very brief. Check spelling carefully and choose precise, natural phrases—for example, “a source of friendship” or “promote cooperation”—then use them to explain specific effects of international competitions.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 4.5

The response attempts both longer and shorter sentence forms, including a contrast introduced by “While” and an infinitive phrase in “To begin with.” However, grammatical control is inconsistent. For example, “In this essay will elobrate” lacks a subject, and “this contest build” has a subject–verb agreement error. The opening sentence also has an unclear structure, and the final phrase “toward there country” does not form a complete, clear grammatical idea. These errors make parts of the response difficult to understand. Practise writing complete sentences with an explicit subject and correctly matched verb, and check articles, pronouns, and punctuation. A few accurate complex sentences would help express the contrast between the two views more clearly.
