Student answer (Band 6.0)
It is argued that global sports competitions, like The Olympics or the Football World Cup bring people together from all over the world while others believe that it creates rival atmosphere instead of companionship between nations due to winning spirit among sportspersons and citizens. In my opinion, athlete's competitions create strong bond among both players and countries.
On the one hand, the international events create competition and no friendship between countries. The main reason is that more competing spirit and winning becomes increasingly important to some team members, which create a stress and chaotic atmosphere between players. More importantly, public of particular country prefer to win always and do not like to lose. For instance, India NDTV channel revealed many times, whenever India lose cricket match from another country, people get frustrated and burn many celebrities effigies.
On the other hand, one of the biggest reasons behind strong relationship between various nations are sports events. This is mainly because sportspeople often travel from one country to another and meet people of other nations, which creates the opportunity to interact and build a strongest bond by playing and communicating. For example, each years athletes travel to other countries for matches, which bring countries close in a good way.
In conclusion, although these sports events create competition among countries, I firmly believe that playing and interacting brings people close to each and it brings nation together automatically.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.5
You address both views and state a clear opinion in the introduction and conclusion: you acknowledge that events can create rivalry, but argue that they bring nations together. The example about Indian fans reacting to a cricket defeat supports the competition side, while the discussion of athletes meeting across borders is relevant to your view. However, the ideas are brief and not equally developed: the positive side relies mainly on a general claim about interaction, without explaining how this can build lasting understanding or giving a specific example. The response also falls 15 words short of the required minimum. Develop each argument with fuller explanation and a more precise example to cover the task more completely.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.5
The response has a clear overall structure: an introduction, separate paragraphs for the two views, and a conclusion. The progression from the opposing view to your own position is easy to follow, and signposts such as “On the one hand,” “On the other hand,” and “In conclusion” help the reader navigate the argument. This meets the lower-band expectation of coherent overall arrangement and shows some stronger control through paragraphing. To make the organisation more flexible and precise, connect claims and examples more explicitly. For instance, the India example follows the point about public pressure, but the link between fan reactions and relations between countries could be explained. Avoid relying on formulaic transitions as the main means of cohesion.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.5
You use a relevant range of topic vocabulary, including “international events,” “competing spirit,” “chaotic atmosphere,” and “interact.” These choices make the subject clear, and some phrases show an attempt to express more specific ideas. However, several noticeable word-choice and collocation problems reduce naturalness: “rival atmosphere” and “strongest bond” are awkward in context, while “burn many celebrities effigies” does not clearly describe the intended action. There is also repetition of “countries,” “create,” and “bring.” Aim for more accurate collocations and vary repeated terms; for example, describe “rivalry between nations” and explain that fans “burn effigies of public figures.”
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5
You attempt both simple and complex sentence forms, including a contrast clause in the opening and a reason clause beginning “This is mainly because.” The main ideas are generally understandable, but errors in agreement, articles, plurals, and sentence construction are frequent enough to make some sentences awkward. For example, “the international events create competition” is followed by “which create a stress,” where the verb does not agree with its subject; “one of the biggest reasons … are sports events” also has a subject–verb agreement problem. The opening sentence needs clearer punctuation and structure, and “each years” shows an inaccurate plural form. Practise checking agreement and sentence boundaries, then proofread articles and plural endings.
