Student answer (Band 5.5)

Most opine that international games are the most appropriate way to bring different nations together whereas others think it can create misunderstanding, competion between countries. This essay will discuss both views. As far as I concerned, I am in favor of first notion as it bring vaious cultures together.

To commence with the former view, the first and foremost point is that players can make good friends from other countries. When different countries players play together , they can talk and share their cultural things with them. which can help them to bring together. For example, participant from one nation can offer their country food to other player, which can help them to make stronger bond. As a result, international sports are good way to make strong bonding between nations.

Shifting toward the latter notion, the predominant one is sports can create misunderstanding and conflicts between countries. If one country loose in the game, they can start fighting with the other country players. Which can create wars, conflicts between countries. For instance, according to the local newspaper headline, which shows that football world cup was the main reason for serious war between two countries. Therefore, international sports might cause serious distractions between countries.

In conclusion, although international games cause misunderstanding and conflicts between countries yet I believe that it might also promote culture and help to make good friends from other countries.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.0

You address both views and state a preference for the idea that sport brings nations together: “I am in favor of first notion.” The two body paragraphs also give relevant reasons, including players sharing cultural traditions and losing teams potentially reacting badly. However, the discussion is only partially developed. The friendship example focuses on sharing food, while the claim that a match could lead to “serious war” is asserted through an unspecified newspaper headline rather than explained or supported. Your conclusion repeats the position but does not weigh the two views in much detail. The response also falls 18 words short of the required minimum, leaving less space to develop your reasoning. Explain the mechanisms behind each view and use a specific, credible example.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.0

The response has a clear overall arrangement: an introduction, separate paragraphs for the two views, and a conclusion. Signposting such as “To commence with” and “Shifting toward the latter notion” helps readers follow the change in perspective. However, some links are mechanical or unclear. For example, “Which can create wars” is a sentence fragment, and “which shows that” makes the newspaper example difficult to connect smoothly to the preceding claim. The conclusion also uses “although … yet,” which makes the relationship between the ideas awkward. Improve cohesion by linking each example directly to the point it supports, using clear pronoun references, and varying transitions rather than relying mainly on formulaic phrases.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.0

You use some vocabulary relevant to the topic, including “cultures,” “misunderstanding,” “conflicts,” and “bond,” and the reader can generally understand your main ideas. However, the range is limited and several choices or collocations are inaccurate or repetitive. Phrases such as “make stronger bond,” “good way to make strong bonding,” and “serious distractions between countries” do not express the intended meaning naturally. There are also noticeable spelling errors, including “competion” and “vaious.” Aim for more precise topic vocabulary and check spelling carefully. For example, describe how events can “foster mutual understanding” or “intensify national rivalry,” rather than repeating “make” and “strong.”

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0

You attempt both simple and more complex forms, including a conditional sentence beginning “If one country…” and a concession in the conclusion. However, the range is limited, and errors occur frequently enough to make some sentences difficult to read. Examples include “As far as I concerned” (missing “am”), “it bring” (subject–verb agreement), and “When different countries players play together” (incorrect noun structure). “Which can help them to bring together” is also incomplete, while “If one country loose” has an incorrect verb form. Punctuation contributes to the problems: “Which can create wars” should be joined to the previous sentence. Practise accurate clause construction, agreement, articles, and sentence boundaries before adding more complex structures.
