Some people believe that international sports events, such as The Olympics or the Football World Cup, are a good way to bring countries together. Others say that these events create competition, not friendship, between countries.

Give reasons for your answer and include any relevant examples from your own knowledge or experience.

Student answer (Band 6.0)

People have different views about international sports events. While some people believe that these events play a significant role in bringing many diffrerent coutries together, others, including me think that it encourages more competition rather than creating the amicably environment.

Supporters of former opinion claim that international sports events, such as The Olympics or the Football World Cup, play an indispensable role in connecting the different coutries. One of the main reason is that it fosters the teamwork in players of different countries. For instance, in Football and Cricket world cup players of different coutries play together which build the strong bond between the players; as a result, they are more likely to have a good connection with the players of other countries. Another significant reason is that it exchanges the different cultures. when players of the divrese countries play together, they tend to get know about the other cultures and traditions; therefore, such events promote the multicultural knowledge among the players.

However, others claim that international events such as the Olympics and FIFA World Cups encourage more competition in severasl countries, and I also align with this prepective. As players play against the countries, they are more likely to compete with other players in order to gain a good reputation for their own cpoutry. For instance, in cricket world cup usually playu against other coutries and they try to win this copmpetion for their own cpuntry which could become a cause of conflicts among them.

In conclusion, although international sports events such as the Olympics or the World cup tournaments brongs the diffrennt coutries together mainly because of team work and multicultural knowledge, I believe that these events encourages more competiton among the players of several countries.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.0

You address both views and make your own position clear: you acknowledge that events can connect countries, but argue that they encourage competition. The response also gives relevant reasons, including teamwork and cultural exchange, and an example involving players competing for their countries. However, some points are not fully explained. The claim that players from different countries play together is unclear in the context of international tournaments, where they usually play against one another, and the link between competition and conflict is asserted rather than demonstrated. Develop each view with a more precise example and explain how it supports your argument.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.5

The response has a clear overall structure: an introduction, separate paragraphs for the two views, and a conclusion. The progression is easy to follow, and signposting such as “However” and “In conclusion” helps the reader recognise the shift in argument. This meets the lower-band expectations and shows some stronger control through purposeful paragraphing. To make the flow more consistently smooth, improve links between individual claims and their explanations. For example, the paragraph about cultural exchange moves quickly from players meeting to “multicultural knowledge” without showing the connection in detail. Some transitions, including repeated “Another significant reason” and “For instance,” also feel formulaic; vary these and use clearer references to avoid repetition.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.0

You attempt a range of topic-related vocabulary, including “indispensable role,” “teamwork,” “multicultural knowledge,” and “reputation.” However, noticeable spelling and word-choice errors reduce precision and sometimes make the reader pause: examples include “diffrerent,” “coutries,” “severasl,” and “prepective.” Some combinations are also unnatural, such as “creating the amicably environment” and “I also align with this perspective.” The vocabulary is sufficient to communicate the main ideas, but control is uneven. Check spelling carefully and prioritise accurate collocations over ambitious phrasing. For example, use “foster cooperation” rather than “fosters the teamwork,” and “I agree with this view” rather than “I align with this perspective.”

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5

You use a mix of simple and complex forms, including a concession in the opening (“While some people believe…”) and cause-and-effect clauses with “as a result” and “therefore.” Most of the argument remains understandable, but some grammatical errors occur in sentence structure and agreement. For example, “One of the main reason is” needs a plural noun, and “these events encourages” needs a plural verb. In “in cricket world cup usually playu against other coutries,” the sentence lacks a clear subject and complete structure. Review subject–verb agreement, articles, and sentence completeness, and proofread punctuation after sentence openings such as “when.” More accurate control of these forms would make your varied sentences clearer.
