Student answer (Band 6.0)
People hold different opinions about whether international sports events foster global unity or create competition between countries. Although such sports events can cause rivalry and conflicts, I believe they play a significant role in promoting cultural exchange and bringing countries together.
International sports events can cause international rivalry between competeting nations' players and people because of sportsmanship and love towards their native countries. Taking an exmaple of Cricket world cup, the final match between India and Pakistan has a different level of fanbase and rivalry. The consequences of before and after match can be seen at the stadium as well as social media websites. They fight both in verbal and non-verbal ways, and this situation can not be altered.
However, global sports such as the Olympics and Fifa world cup potential to promote cultural diversity and exchange. Sports fans from different parts of the world go the host country, which makes the host country diverse and unite with different cultural backgrounds. Diverse cultures supporting one team and cheering in one stadium promotes sense of togetherness. This year Fifa world cup final match as held in Vancouver, Canada and football fans from all over the Asia and Europe seen there and had experienced victory of Argentina together. Moreover, international sports also benefits tourism industry a lot, which consequently make good business relationship within different countries.
In conclusion, eventhough some sports events might lead to national conflicts within fans or players due to competetion, sportsmanship spirit bring the world together and result in cultural exchange and cultural humality. The benfits of global sports events are long-term and promote international unity.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.5
You address both views and state a consistent opinion: the introduction acknowledges rivalry but argues that events promote cultural exchange and unity. The India–Pakistan cricket example supports the competition side, while the discussion of fans gathering in a host country and tourism supports your view. This meets the task well, though the two sides are not developed equally: the rivalry paragraph mainly describes fan conflict, and the claim that it “cannot be altered” is asserted rather than explained. The Vancouver example also needs clearer factual framing and a more direct link to how shared attendance builds friendship. To strengthen the response further, explain the mechanisms behind each view and develop the examples with precise, relevant details.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.5
The response has a clear overall structure: an introduction, one paragraph for each view, and a conclusion that restates your position. Transitions such as “However,” “Moreover,” and “In conclusion” help readers follow the argument, and the main ideas are generally grouped appropriately. Some connections are less clear within paragraphs, however. For example, the move from cultural diversity to tourism in the third paragraph introduces a related but insufficiently linked point, while “The consequences of before and after match” is difficult to interpret. The conclusion repeats the central claim but does not bring the supporting ideas together. Use clearer references and explain how each example supports the paragraph’s main point to make progression more consistently smooth.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.5
You use relevant topic vocabulary, including “international rivalry,” “cultural exchange,” “cultural diversity,” and “togetherness,” which gives the response an appropriate range for the subject. However, inaccurate word choice, collocation, and spelling are noticeable and sometimes make ideas harder to understand. Examples include “love towards their native countries,” “different level of fanbase,” “cultural humality,” and “benefits tourism industry a lot.” There are also spelling errors such as “competeting,” “exmaple,” and “benfits.” Aim for more natural combinations and check spelling carefully; for instance, describe fans’ “strong national loyalty” and say events “boost the tourism industry.” This would make your vocabulary more precise and fluent.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5
You attempt a mix of simple and complex structures, including a concession in “Although such sports events can cause rivalry …, I believe…” and a relative clause in “which makes the host country diverse.” These choices show some range, and the overall meaning is usually recoverable. Some grammatical errors remain, particularly with articles, verb forms, agreement, and sentence construction. For example, “Sports fans … go the host country” needs a preposition, and “international sports also benefits” has a subject–verb agreement error. The sentence beginning “This year Fifa world cup final match as held…” is also difficult to follow because its verb structure is incomplete. Review articles and verb forms, and proofread each sentence for a clear subject and complete predicate.
