Student answer (Band 5.0)

There is an on going deabte regarding the international sports events. There are divided opinions. A group of individuals have argued that, international events, such as The Olympics or the Football World Cup, are a good way to bring countries together; However, Others are counter claimed that these events create competition, not friendships, between countries. Prior to my stance, both the viewpoints would be discussed in the upcoming paragraphs with valid reasons and appropriate examples.

Discussing the former view supporters believe that, international sports events, for example The Olympics or the Football World Cup, are a good way to bring countries together. Besides this, this allows the local sports aethletes to grow and compete with the international players around the world. I addition, if the host country who is helding the Olympics or the world cup will get known to other nations, with their culture and heritage.

However, proponents have their own opinion. To begin with, these events create competition, not friendship, between countries. Moreover, this unlocks the conflicts between countries and the local viewers, if the other country atheletes win towards the local sportsmen. Besides this, the overall relationships of the nations get ruin sometimes with trades and financial activities which they were performing since years.

To sum up and offer my position, I support former view, both these view are right on their way, but I think the countries itself should get some equal chance to organise varies international sports events that will help the countries to build their relationships. Lastly, countries and its people will also feel that they are getting a same chance of pushing their culture and local sport players to international grounds.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 4.5

You address both views and state a preference for the view that international events can bring countries together. The discussion includes relevant points about cultural exposure and the possibility that losing can provoke hostility. However, these ideas are mostly asserted rather than explained or supported with specific examples, and your position is not fully clear: you say you support the former view but also that “both these view are right.” The conclusion’s suggestion that countries should have equal chances to host events could be developed as part of your reasoning. The response contains 237 words, so it is 13 words below the 250-word minimum; 41 words copied from the task prompt were not counted. This shortfall, together with limited development, means the task is only partially addressed. Add a concrete example and explain how it supports your view.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.0

The response has a recognisable structure: an introduction, one paragraph for each view, and a conclusion. Signposts such as “However” and “To sum up” help readers identify the stages of the discussion. However, progression within paragraphs is limited, and several linking expressions feel mechanical or do not clearly show the relationship between ideas. For example, “Besides this” is repeated, while “Moreover, this unlocks the conflicts” does not make the connection between competition and conflict clear. References such as “this” and “these events” are sometimes vague. To improve, organise each body paragraph around one main claim, then explain it and give an example; use linking words only when their logical relationship is precise.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.0

You use some topic-related vocabulary, including “international sports events,” “culture and heritage,” “competition,” and “relationships,” so the main subject is generally clear. However, the range is limited and several inaccurate word choices or collocations make parts difficult to understand. Examples include “unlock the conflicts,” “win towards the local sportsmen,” and “relationships … get ruin.” There are also spelling errors such as “deabte,” “aethletes,” and “helding.” These issues are noticeable and sometimes obscure your intended meaning, which limits the effectiveness of the vocabulary. Build a more reliable set of phrases for describing hosting, rivalry, and international relations, and check spelling and word forms carefully.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 4.5

You attempt both simple and more complex sentence forms, including a contrast between the two views and conditional phrasing about hosting. However, complex structures are often faulty, and errors occur frequently enough to make some sentences difficult to follow. For example, “A group of individuals have argued that, …; However, Others are counter claimed” has problems with punctuation and clause construction, while “if the host country who is helding … will get known” is not a well-formed conditional. In “both these view are right,” the demonstrative and noun do not agree. Practise building clear subject–verb sentences first, then add subordinate clauses; check agreement, articles, verb forms, and punctuation before submitting.
