Student answer (Band 5.5)

International sports events have a significant impact in this modren world. Most of the people think that it brings all the countries togather but some of the people think it create competition between the countries.

However, there are a lot of advantages of the sports events in the world particularly in ecnomic development and coultural prmotion because if the event took place in tha Qatar to people from all over the world come to the countary to watch the matches they learn a lot of things from their coulture like, eat their food go to their historical places. In the FIFA world cup 2022 people from all over the world come to Qatar to watch the matches if Qatar didn't host this tournament people will never visit this country because of this tournament people came to the countary and know about their coulture. on the other hand these kind of events really bring the countries togather like people from all over the world come to a specfic countaty where the event is orgnasied. In every sport there is a thing called sportsmenship which help the teams to respect every team and the refries in the football game tells the players to be humble and respect each other these little things makes great enviorment.

On the other hand some people think this can creat a competition between the countries. It is only possible if the event is not orgnised well. we can say that the players have the hunger to win in this they sometime disrespects the other players which makes the games more controvertal like we see these kind of things in the boxing matches where players do mind games before the match to make their opponent week.

To conclude that i can say that if the event is organised well then sports are the best thing to bring the countres togather on the other hand if it is not well organised the the situation become worst like in the game between Pakistan and India where Indian players didnt shake their hands with the Pakistani team and it spreads hate amoung both of the countries.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.0

You address both views and give a clear overall position: well-organised events can unite countries, whereas poorly managed competition may increase hostility. The Qatar World Cup example supports cultural exchange, and the Pakistan–India example illustrates how sporting behaviour can affect relations. These are relevant responses to the question. However, the discussion is uneven: the benefits receive more explanation, while the opposing view is mainly linked to players’ desire to win and boxing mind games. The claim that competition arises only when an event is poorly organised is also asserted rather than fully explained. Develop both sides more evenly and clarify how competition can exist even at well-run events, while still explaining why you believe its effects need not outweigh sport’s unifying potential.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.5

The response has an identifiable overall structure: an introduction, discussion of benefits, a contrasting paragraph, and a conclusion. Phrases such as “On the other hand” help signal a change in viewpoint, and the examples generally appear beside the ideas they support. However, progression within the long benefits paragraph is difficult to follow because cultural exchange, sportsmanship, and event organisation are combined without clear separation. Some linking is repetitive or mechanical, particularly the repeated use of “on the other hand” and “because of this tournament.” References such as “this” and “these kind of events” are not always precise. Use separate paragraphs for the two views, organise each around one main point, and make links between claims and examples more explicit.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.0

You use relevant topic vocabulary, including “international sports events,” “cultural,” “sportsmanship,” “opponent,” and “host this tournament,” so the reader can understand the main discussion. There are also attempts to express more specific ideas, such as cultural promotion and mind games. However, the range is limited and several words or phrases are repeated, especially “countries,” “event,” and “come.” Frequent spelling errors—such as “modren,” “together,” “economic,” “culture,” and “controversial”—make the writing less fluent and can distract the reader. Some combinations are also imprecise, for example “create a competition” and “the hunger to win.” Build a bank of accurate collocations for sport, international relations, and cultural exchange, and proofread spelling and word forms carefully.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0

You attempt both simple and complex sentences, including conditional structures such as “if the event is organised well” and explanations introduced with “because.” This gives you a basis for expressing cause and contrast. However, control is inconsistent, and many sentences contain errors in agreement, tense, articles, or sentence boundaries. For example, “Most of the people think that it brings” shifts from plural “people” to singular “it,” while “some of the people think it create” lacks the correct verb form. The Qatar example also runs through several clauses without reliable punctuation, making relationships between ideas harder to follow. Practise accurate subject–verb agreement and verb forms, and divide long sentences into shorter units with clear punctuation. More controlled complex sentences would improve clarity.
