Student answer (Band 6.0)
There are some people who believe international sporting events brings community together and help create brotherhood among countries. However, In contrast to this, some people think these events create competition and hinder friendship between the countries. I will be writing about both views and share my opinion on this afterwards.
Firstly, there is a group of people who supports the view and believes that international sports events like World cup, helps build friendship between countries because at the time of this events, people from different countries come together at pub or local screening centres or even at the stadium and watch the match and immerse onto that environment and enjoy the sport together. For example, In the Olympics 2020 a Canadian gymnist who came second held the flag of the Japanese gymnist who won gold so that she could take the picture infront of her flag. This shows the compassion that we have towards each other.
Secondly, there are some people who oppose it as they think these competition brings competition between the countries. These people think that These sporting events can create unhealthy competition between the countries participating for example; there was a incident in the Paris, the Morrocian fans created riot because they were knocked out of the competition by France.
Thirdly, In my opinion, these competitions are healthy and should be conducted in the near future as well because it brings people together and creates a environment simmilar to a festival where people forget their sorrows and immerse in the beauty of the game. For example, there was a civil war in the Ecuador but when they won the African Nations cup, players requested locals and authorities to end the war and the very next day war ended.
Finally, many people have their own opinion towards this topic. However, at the end the prosperity of the world is what that matters the most and I believe that sporting events can definately helps the countries and strengthen their friendship.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.5
You address both views and state a clear preference for international sporting events, so the response covers the main parts of the task. The first example—the Canadian gymnast supporting the Japanese winner—illustrates goodwill effectively, while the Paris incident gives some support to the opposing view. However, the explanation of how the riot demonstrates competition rather than a particular crowd disturbance is brief, and the Ecuador example is unclear and appears to confuse the country or tournament, which weakens its support. Your opinion is repeated in the final paragraph, but the reasons for it could be developed more fully. To strengthen the response, explain the consequences of each example and make the supporting details precise.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.5
The essay has a recognisable structure, with an introduction, separate paragraphs for the two views, your opinion, and a conclusion. Sequencing phrases such as “Firstly,” “Secondly,” and “Finally” help readers follow the discussion, and the overall progression is understandable. At times, however, this signposting feels mechanical: “Thirdly” introduces your own view rather than another distinct argument, and the conclusion largely repeats the introduction and opinion. Some links between claims and examples are also abrupt, particularly in the paragraph about the Paris incident and the Ecuador example. Use transitions that show the relationship between ideas, and develop each paragraph around one clear point before moving to its example.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.5
You use relevant topic vocabulary, including “international sporting events,” “unhealthy competition,” “compassion,” and “strengthen their friendship.” This gives you enough language to communicate the main ideas, and some choices show an attempt to be specific. However, several expressions are awkward or imprecise, such as “immerse onto that environment,” “brings community together,” and “creates a environment.” Repetition of “competition,” “countries,” and “people” also limits flexibility. Spelling errors such as “gymnist,” “Morrocian,” “simmilar,” and “definately” detract from accuracy. Aim for more natural collocations and check spelling carefully; precise wording will make your examples and arguments easier to understand.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5
You attempt both simple and complex sentence forms, including clauses introduced by “because” and “so that,” and most of the message remains understandable. However, errors in agreement, articles, and verb forms recur: “events brings” should be “events bring,” “these competition brings” should be “these competitions bring,” and “can definately helps” should be “can definitely help.” There are also problems with sentence boundaries and punctuation, for example the semicolon before “there was a incident” and the capitalisation of “In” and “These” within sentences. These errors sometimes make the writing less smooth, although they do not generally prevent understanding. Review subject–verb agreement and article use, and proofread each sentence for punctuation.
