Student answer (Band 6.0)

There is a growing debate regarding whether the international games put positive or negative impact on countrie's relationships. Some believe that the international sports are outstanding method to build close relations between nations, while others argue that these events generate competetion amoung them. This essay will discuss both perspectives before giving my opinion.

To begin with, proponents of the first view claim that worldwide athletic activities makes connections stronger between states. This is because, international competitions not only encourage cultural exchange but it brings people together by bringing them in one spot. As a result, players and viewers share their personalities and beliefs which develop the feeling of friendship. For example, in cricket worldcup, few different regions plays againt each other to win and they also take it as competition. However, after finishing the match they always support and congrats whosoever wins.

On the other hand, those who advocate for global athletics as generating rivalry states that taking these sports as a way of building bonds is not worth it as it gives feeling of competating with each other. They believe this because while some players plays, they try hard to make next team loose the match. Moreover, players who try to win usually use tricks and techniques to confuse other teams so that they can not focus on them.

For instance, in hockey game competitors tries to show their wrong move to others in order to escape from their focus and fulfill their goals sucessfully.

In conclusion, while both views have merit, I personally believe that international events plays vital role in nation's economies and in inter-state relationships. After considering both perspectives, it is evident that merits of worldwide sports events outweigh its demerits.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.5

You discuss both views and give a clear overall preference for the positive role of international sports, so the response addresses the main task. The first view is supported with cultural exchange and the example of cricket players congratulating opponents. However, the opposing view is less fully explained: the points about trying to make another team lose and using deceptive tactics describe normal sporting competition, but do not clearly show how this creates hostility between countries. Your conclusion also introduces economic benefits, which are not developed in the essay. To strengthen the response, explain the national-level consequences of rivalry and support each main point with a more specific example.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.5

The essay has a clear overall arrangement: an introduction, separate paragraphs for the two views, and a conclusion. Signposts such as “To begin with,” “On the other hand,” and “In conclusion” make the progression easy to follow. This meets the lower-band expectation of coherent organisation and shows some flexibility in linking ideas. However, connections within paragraphs are occasionally mechanical or unclear. For example, “This is because” is followed by several ideas, while “As a result” does not clearly identify which idea causes the claimed friendship. The cricket example also shifts from competition to mutual support without fully explaining the link. Use clearer references and explain how each example supports its paragraph’s main claim.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.5

You use a range of topic-related vocabulary, including “cultural exchange,” “connections,” “rivalry,” and “inter-state relationships,” which helps communicate the subject. There are also attempts at more formal phrasing, such as “proponents of the first view.” However, several inaccurate word choices and collocations make the expression awkward or occasionally unclear: “put positive or negative impact,” “outstanding method,” and “fulfill their goals successfully.” Spelling errors such as “competetion,” “amoung,” and “sucessfully” are noticeable. Aim for more natural combinations and check spelling carefully; for example, say “have a positive or negative impact” and “an effective way to strengthen relations.”

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5

You attempt both simple and complex sentences, including clauses beginning “while” and “because,” and the overall meaning is generally understandable. However, errors occur across the response, particularly in subject–verb agreement, articles, and sentence construction. Examples include “worldwide athletic activities makes,” “some players plays,” and “international events plays”; these subjects require plural verb forms. In “it brings people together,” the pronoun does not agree with the plural subject “competitions.” The opening phrase “There is a growing debate regarding whether…” is also followed by an awkwardly formed clause. Review agreement and article use, then proofread each sentence to ensure that its subject and verb match and that clauses are complete and clearly connected.
