Student answer (Band 6.0)

Opinions are divided on whether international sport events bring friendship across countries or it creates competitive with no harmony. I personally believe massive sport events bring countless friendships and also cultural exchange to all countries. while competition might create some language barriers or nationalism that makes friction. It is ultimately more important to recognise the cultural exchange and respect these games fundamental purpose.

On the one hand, there are those who believe that international sport games create lots of unnecessary misunderstandings of language. Proponents of this maintain that athletes from different counties might speak different languages. For example FIFA Football game, both teams speaking different languages in the game created a lot of misunderstandings and leading to aggressive behaviour for both teams. Consequently, many people feel that international sport events always bring misunderstanding language barriers.

on the other hand, I agree with those who assert that global sporting events successfully bring countries together. This is primarily because these competitions sport games offer individuals from different cultural to interact in an environment defined by fair play and respect. A clear illustration of this is Olympic Games, where all athletes from diverse backgrounds play together live together peacefully and display a public image regardless their cultural or nations. Therefore, it is evident that these events bridge countless cultural and bring harmony.

In conclusion, while there are certainly valid arguments for such events create different misunderstandings and language barriers. It is imperative that international sport game offers better cultural exchange and display a better public image.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.0

You address both sides of the discussion and state a clear preference for the view that sporting events promote friendship and cultural exchange. The Olympic example supports this position, and you acknowledge possible friction from competition and nationalism. However, the opposing view is explained mainly through language misunderstandings, and the FIFA example is unclear: it does not show how language differences specifically lead to aggressive behaviour. Your own position would also be stronger if you explained more fully how shared participation creates lasting understanding, rather than only a positive public image. Develop each main claim with a precise example and explanation, and make the relationship between competition and friendship more nuanced.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.0

The response has a recognisable structure: an introduction, two contrasting body paragraphs, and a conclusion. Phrases such as “On the one hand,” “on the other hand,” and “In conclusion” help signal the stages of the argument. Overall, the ideas are arranged coherently, but some links are mechanical or unclear. For instance, the FIFA example moves from different languages to “aggressive behaviour” without explaining the connection, while “Therefore” introduces a broad conclusion about harmony rather than a clearly established result. The opening and conclusion also repeat similar claims. Improve progression by making each paragraph’s central point explicit, then linking the example directly to that point; use referencing and transitions that clarify relationships rather than simply announce them.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.5

You attempt topic-relevant vocabulary, including “cultural exchange,” “nationalism,” “fair play,” and “diverse backgrounds,” which helps communicate the main ideas. There is some range, but inaccurate word forms and collocations sometimes make the meaning awkward, as in “create competitive,” “misunderstandings of language,” and “bridge countless cultural.” Repetition of “sport events,” “games,” and “bring” also limits flexibility. Choose more natural combinations and check whether a noun, adjective, or verb is needed in each phrase. For example, describe events as fostering cooperation or creating rivalry, and refer to language barriers or cultural differences. More precise phrasing would make your argument clearer and more convincing.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5

You use both simple and more complex sentence forms, including a relative clause in “an environment defined by fair play and respect” and a subordinate clause beginning “while.” The overall meaning is generally understandable, but some grammatical errors remain. In the opening, “whether … or it creates” does not maintain a parallel structure; “while competition might create” is also left as a fragment after the preceding sentence. There are agreement and article problems in “international sport game offers” and “the Olympic Games,” and the sentence beginning “For example FIFA Football game” is structurally difficult to follow. Use complete sentences, check singular/plural agreement and articles, and revise long examples into clear clauses. This will improve accuracy while preserving your attempts at complex structures.
