Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.5

The response discusses both views and gives a concluding position: it presents international events as opportunities for cultural exchange and fan support, while also describing political hostility and spectator violence. These points are relevant, but the discussion is only partly developed. For example, the claim that competitors share “traditional knowledge” is supported by examples about discussing sportsmanship and diet, yet the link to countries being brought together is not fully explained. The example about Indian fans supporting Argentina is specific, although its relevance to friendship between nations could be made clearer. The opposing view is also asserted through a survey and general claims, with little explanation of how competition damages relations. State your own view more directly and develop each main reason with clearer explanation and evidence.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.0

The essay has a clear overall arrangement: an introduction, separate paragraphs for the two views, and a conclusion. “On the one hand,” “On the other hand,” and “In conclusion” help readers follow this structure. However, progression within paragraphs is sometimes mechanical, and links between claims and examples are not always clear. For instance, the first body paragraph moves from cultural exchange to diet plans and then to fans supporting foreign teams without fully showing how each point supports the central idea. The conclusion repeats the two sides but does not clearly resolve them with a personal position. Use topic sentences that state each paragraph’s main argument, then explain how the example supports it; also make references such as “these reasons” more precise.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.0

The response attempts vocabulary relevant to the topic, including “sportsmanship,” “politic barriers,” “spectators,” and “competitions.” However, the range is limited by repeated general words such as “countries,” “people,” and “support,” and several inaccurate word choices or collocations make meaning less clear. Phrases such as “make a collaboration,” “politic revenges,” and “revengable ideas” are not natural in this context; spelling errors such as “colloboration,” “opportiunity,” and “paticipants” are also noticeable. These issues sometimes require the reader to interpret the intended meaning. Build a more accurate set of topic phrases, such as “foster international understanding” and “heighten national rivalries,” and check spelling and word forms during revision.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0

There are attempts to use complex sentences and causal links, including “This is because…” and “since they can not welcome the lost,” but control is inconsistent. Errors in agreement, articles, and sentence construction occur in examples such as “organizing sports events … make,” “a opportiunity,” and “different countries people support.” Some clauses are incomplete or awkwardly joined, as in “numerous paticipants from different cultures since they may discuss their opinions,” which makes the relationship between ideas difficult to follow. Capitalisation and punctuation are also inconsistent, particularly after introductory words such as “Nowadays” and “Although.” Practise building accurate simple sentences first, then combine them with subordinate clauses while checking subject–verb agreement, articles, and clause boundaries.
