Student answer (Band 5.0)
Some people believe that International sports events are a good way to bring countries together, however some people argue that these events create unhealthy competitions between countries. I believe that it mostly depend on the nature of sports events and the level of competition.
When The Olympics or any other international sports events start spectators from all around the world gather to witness them. People can get chance to understand different culture and get connected from various ethnicities. For example, during football world cup people travel to different countries to witness their teams playing, within their journey they get chance to socialise with citizens of other countries and to introduce their culture to them, which results in building friendly relationship with other Nations. Moreover, visitors can enjoy famous places of the other countries during their visit, which can increase tourism and improve economic growth of a country.
On the other hand, some times such events can create competitions among citizens because they get intensely involve in the sports. People become aggressive while witnessing the sports, sometimes disgrace the players and leave others in distress. For instance, cricket match among Pakistan and India is always a debate for both countries, people are emotionally connected with this sports and intensely watch the game. Citizens of both countries

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 4.5
You introduce both views and give a personal position: “I believe that it mostly depend on the nature of sports events and the level of competition.” The first body paragraph explains how travel and cultural contact can build relationships, while the second begins to show how intense national rivalry can cause hostility. However, the response is incomplete: it ends mid-sentence at “Citizens of both countries,” so the opposing view and your own opinion are not fully developed or concluded. The length check also confirms that the response is 43 words below the 250-word minimum; eight words copied from the prompt were excluded. To strengthen the response, complete the second argument, explain your position more clearly, and add a brief conclusion.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.0
The response has a recognisable structure, with an introduction followed by one paragraph supporting international events and another introducing the opposing view. Linking phrases such as “For example,” “Moreover,” and “On the other hand” help signal relationships between ideas. However, progression is limited because the final paragraph stops abruptly, leaving the discussion without a completed comparison or conclusion. Some connections are also unclear: the sentence about visitors enjoying famous places and improving economic growth shifts from cultural friendship to tourism without explaining how this supports the main point. Develop each paragraph around one clear claim, connect examples explicitly to that claim, and use a concluding paragraph to bring the two views together.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.5
You use a relevant range of topic vocabulary, including “spectators,” “ethnicities,” “socialise,” “aggressive,” and “emotionally connected.” These choices help communicate ideas about international contact and rivalry. There are also noticeable inaccuracies in word choice and collocation, such as “unhealthy competitions,” “get chance,” “building friendly relationship,” and “intensely involve in the sports.” Capitalisation is inconsistent in “International,” “The Olympics,” and “Nations,” and “some times” should be written as one word when meaning occasionally. These issues do not prevent the reader from understanding the main ideas, but more natural combinations and consistent spelling and capitalisation would make the writing clearer and more precise.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0
You attempt both simple and more complex sentences, including a conditional-style example beginning “When The Olympics… start” and a relative clause in “which can increase tourism.” However, errors occur frequently enough to make some sentences awkward. For example, “it mostly depend” needs subject–verb agreement, “People can get chance” is missing an article, and “people travel … to witness their teams playing, within their journey” has faulty sentence connection and preposition use. The sentence beginning “For instance” is also incomplete because the response ends before its point is finished. Practise checking agreement, articles, sentence boundaries, and complete clauses; aim to produce complex sentences that remain grammatically controlled.
