Student answer (Band 6.0)
International sporting events , such as the olympics and the football world cup attract the attention across the globe.while, some people believe these competitions strengthen relationships between countries, others argue that they encourage rivalry rather than friendship. In my opinion these events also intesify competition but also help to build relations and friendship.
On the one hand, major sportings events bring people together through a shared interest .Athletes and supporters from different background have opportunity to learn together ther rich culture diversity of each country .To examplify, when there is match in any county then players and fans visit the host country they welcome them with flowers and traditions of native people .Moving further, players congratulates each other with respect despite they lose this make sense of respect and friendship between them.
On the other hand, international support can encourage excessive nationalism due to native people who support the team of their country this makes tough competition between both nations sometimes this lead to arrguments betweem two different groups as winning team shows superiority infront of others.Moving further, media plays vital role in portraying matches as bettle between nations as every media channel support their country and shows other team as villians infront of masses .for instace, during world cup between india and pakistan media displays it as war between nations not game of two countries which increase heatred feelings among people.
In my opinion ,international supports should be encouraged because it bring most people together to get familiar with each others culture ,although some people take it as rivaliry yet, most of masses take it in positive way and knows international relations are important to develop for success of each country through these events we get knowledge and encourge friendship between nations .

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.5
You address both sides of the discussion and give a clear opinion: international events can intensify competition but also build relationships. The two main body paragraphs support the opposing views with relevant examples, including athletes showing respect and the India–Pakistan World Cup being presented as a national contest by the media. This meets the task well. However, some points are asserted more than explained: for example, the cultural exchange between visitors and host communities is mentioned, but its effect on relations is not fully developed. The conclusion also repeats your position rather than drawing together the reasons. To strengthen the response further, explain the consequences of each example and maintain a more precise distinction between sporting rivalry and lasting hostility.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.5
The response has a clear overall structure: an introduction, separate paragraphs for the two views, and a concluding opinion. The progression from shared cultural interest to nationalism and media influence is easy to follow, and signposts such as “On the one hand” and “On the other hand” help the reader identify the contrast. This is a coherent arrangement, though some linking is mechanical or unclear. “Moving further” is repeated and does not always show the exact relationship between ideas, while the final paragraph combines several points in a long sequence. Some references, such as “this” in “this makes tough competition,” could identify their subject more clearly. Use a wider range of precise transitions and divide complex points into clearer units.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.5
You use relevant topic vocabulary, including “excessive nationalism,” “rivalry,” “host country,” and “international relations,” and these choices help communicate the main ideas. There are also attempts at less common expressions, such as “portraying matches as battle between nations.” However, spelling and word-choice errors are noticeable and sometimes make the reader pause: “sportings,” “support” for “sports,” “arrguments,” “villians,” and “heatred” are examples. Some collocations are also unnatural, including “learn together their rich culture diversity” and “shows superiority infront of others.” This limits the precision and control of the vocabulary. Check spelling carefully and learn common word partnerships for discussing sport, culture, and international relations.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0
You attempt both simple and complex sentence forms, including contrast clauses such as “although some people take it as rivalry” and explanations introduced by “because.” This gives the response some structural variety. However, complex sentences are often faulty, and errors in agreement, articles, sentence boundaries, and punctuation occur throughout. For example, “Athletes and supporters from different background have opportunity” needs plural agreement and articles, while “players congratulates each other” has a subject–verb agreement error. Several sentences run together, particularly the opening and final paragraph, making relationships between clauses harder to follow. Practise building accurate sentences with one main idea and a clearly controlled subordinate clause, then check agreement, articles, and full stops.
