Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.0

You address both views: the second paragraph presents sports as a way to build peaceful connections, while the third explains how rivalry can intensify competition. Your final sentence, “sports should be seen as event not as war,” also gives a basic personal position. However, the discussion is only partial: the examples are brief and do not explain clearly how an event changes relations between countries, and the balanced approach mentioned in the introduction is not developed. The response also contains 212 words, below the required 250, so there is limited space to explain and support your ideas. Develop each view with a specific example and explain its significance, then state your opinion more clearly and consistently.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.0

The response has a clear overall arrangement: an introduction, one paragraph for each view, and a conclusion. Transitions such as “However” and “In conclusion” help readers follow the change in perspective, and the examples are placed with the relevant arguments. Some connections are less clear or mechanical, though. “Resulting in stronger bonds between two countries” is a fragment rather than a fully connected explanation, and the conclusion repeats the opposing views without drawing together the reasoning. The reference to a “balanced approach” in the introduction is not linked to the final opinion. To improve, connect each example explicitly to its main point and make the conclusion follow from the discussion rather than simply restating it.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.0

You use some relevant topic vocabulary, including “global sports events,” “rivalry,” “passion,” and “historical,” which helps communicate the main ideas. However, the range is limited and several noticeable spelling and word-choice errors make parts less clear, such as “Oylmpics,” “fearce,” “compeates,” and “Austraila.” Some combinations are also unnatural, including “creates safer future for world” and “the teams spirit.” Aim for accurate spelling and more natural collocations, and use a wider range of precise terms for international relations and sporting rivalry. For example, explain whether events foster “mutual understanding” or intensify “national tensions,” rather than relying repeatedly on “competition” and “passion.”

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0

You attempt both simple and more complex sentence forms, including “When the teams of two different nations compete…” and a contrast introduced by “However.” Nevertheless, complex constructions are often faulty, and errors occur frequently enough to make some sentences difficult to follow. Examples include “the bring countries together,” “when… nations… compete the heat of the moment,” and the fragment “Resulting in stronger bonds between two countries.” There are also problems with agreement and sentence boundaries, as in “global sports events brings” and the comma splice in “I believe, sports should…”. Practise building complete sentences with a clear subject and verb, checking agreement, and using punctuation to separate clauses. Keep complex sentences manageable until their structure is secure.
