Some people believe that international sports events, such as The Olympics or the Football World Cup, are a good way to bring countries together. Others say that these events create competition, not friendship, between countries.

Give reasons for your answer and include any relevant examples from your own knowledge or experience.

Student answer (Band 5.5)

Some individuals think that different sports events build the strong friendship between countries, whereas others argue that it will generate rivary with each other nations. This essay will examine both of these perspectives and I strongly believe that these competitions are only limited to the sports events, they never ever create hate between countries relationships.

On the one hand, matches between two countries are actually bonding a new relationship. As all the players are representative of different nations and fans of those countries are enthusiastist with that player's behaviour and their performence. For example, I went to attend the Japan and India cricket match last month, even though I am big fan of Indian team, I love the sportsmanship of Japaniese Player. The number one reason is the gesture. To examplify, at the end of the match they bow-down the all the viewers even though they did not won that match. Over the past month, I have seen many post and tweets on that match, in which people are respecting the countries. Not only that citizens of Japan's also appreciating the skills of the Indian players. Thus, these kind of sports events are really helping to connect and build frienship with each others countries resident's.

On the other hand, there are many other things that maybe creating bad image of the country and make it feel like rivary in those sports tournaments. To start, a moment, when other team player perform better and people mocking other countries followers. For instance, in the football world cup, People often seen disrespectfull with messi and ronaldo teams followers. However, in reallity, they are just having fun of the match. They never been disrespectful to that country. Hence, some emotions are only born on the match and stay live till the match.

In conclusion, after examining both of the sides, it has been cleared that these sports events are only for the entertainment and it never create disturbance between countries.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.0

You address both views and state a clear opinion: you argue that sporting events build connections and that rivalry is generally confined to the match. The Japan–India cricket example gives the first view a relevant personal illustration, including the players’ gesture of bowing to spectators. The opposing view is also acknowledged through teasing supporters of Messi and Ronaldo. However, this second point is less fully developed: it describes mockery but does not explain in detail how international competition can create lasting tension or why that view may be persuasive. Your conclusion restates your position, but the claim that events “never” create disturbance is broader than the evidence provided. Develop both sides more evenly and qualify general claims to make the discussion more convincing.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.0

The response has a clear overall structure, with an introduction, separate paragraphs for the two views, and a conclusion. Signposts such as “On the one hand,” “On the other hand,” and “In conclusion” help the reader follow the discussion. Within paragraphs, however, some connections are mechanical or unclear. For example, “Not only that citizens of Japan's also appreciating” does not clearly link to the preceding point, and “To start, a moment” makes the next idea difficult to follow. The reference in “they are just having fun of the match” is also not fully clear. Use more precise linking and pronouns, and organise each body paragraph around a clear claim followed by explanation and evidence.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.5

You use a relevant range of topic vocabulary, including “sportsmanship,” “tournaments,” “followers,” and “appreciating the skills,” which helps communicate the subject. There are also attempts at less common expressions, such as “bonding a new relationship,” though this collocation is not natural. Noticeable spelling and word-choice errors—such as “rivary,” “enthusiastist,” “performence,” and “frienship”—reduce accuracy and sometimes make the reader pause. Some phrases are also imprecise, including “bad image of the country” and “stay live till the match.” Build accuracy by checking spelling and learning common word partnerships, and choose specific terms such as “national rivalry” or “supporters” where appropriate.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0

You attempt a mix of simple and complex sentences, including a contrast clause beginning “even though” and a reason introduced by “The number one reason is.” The main ideas are generally understandable, but some grammatical errors affect clarity. For example, “these competitions are only limited to the sports events, they never ever create” joins two independent clauses incorrectly, while “they did not won” uses the wrong verb form after “did.” There are also problems with agreement and sentence construction in “these kind of sports events are really helping” and “it never create disturbance.” Practise accurate clause boundaries, subject–verb agreement, and verb forms after auxiliaries; these corrections would make your varied sentence attempts more controlled.
