Student answer (Band 5.0)

While some suggest that international sports events can be beneficial to improve the relationship of different nations including The Olympics and the Football World Cup, others have opposite view and they consider that instead of developing friendship between the countries these events create compitition. Although people have varied opinions about this statement, I believe these events have potential to brings countries together.

One main reason why some people consider that international sports events are a good way to bring countries together is they help to improve the diplomatic relationship of the countries. When these events are organised, players from all over the world participate in these sports. While being a part of these events, higher authorities get a change to get together with different countries leaders, where they can interact with each other and resolve their conflicts. As a result, these events not only help to maintain the peace between nations but also promote trade in different nations.

Others believe that sometimes countries face serious conflicts due to which player of those nations play with opposite team for willing to win, which create competitive attitude among them rather than friendship. Player consider the opponent team as an enemy and after wining the game they may tease other team that can create aggeration in different teams.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 4.5

You introduce both views and state your opinion, and the point about leaders meeting and resolving conflicts is relevant. However, the response addresses the task only partially: the argument that competition can undermine friendship is brief, and your own view is not developed with a supporting reason or example. The final sentence, “In my opinion, international events create harmony in differnt”, is unfinished, so your conclusion and position are incomplete. The response also contains 216 words, below the required 250; the eight words copied from the task prompt were not counted. To strengthen the response, complete the conclusion and explain both sides with specific examples and fuller reasoning.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.0

The response has a recognisable structure: an introduction, one paragraph for each view, and the start of a concluding paragraph. Linking expressions such as “Although,” “As a result,” and “In my opinion” help signal relationships between ideas. However, progression is limited because the second viewpoint is only briefly explained, and the final paragraph stops mid-sentence, leaving the essay without a complete ending. Some connections are also unclear, particularly the sentence about players competing “for willing to win” and then teasing opponents. Develop each paragraph around a clear main point, explain how the example supports it, and use references such as “these events” or “this rivalry” precisely to make the links easier to follow.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.5

You use some relevant topic vocabulary, including “diplomatic relationship,” “conflicts,” “maintain the peace,” and “promote trade,” which helps communicate the main ideas. There is also an attempt to use less common language, such as “harmony.” However, word choice and spelling errors are noticeable: “compitition,” “aggeration,” and “differnt” are misspelled, while “get a change” and “create competitive attitude” are inaccurate or unnatural combinations. These choices sometimes make the intended meaning less clear. Build accuracy by checking spelling and learning common collocations as complete phrases, for example “have an opportunity to meet” and “foster a competitive attitude.”

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0

You attempt a mixture of sentence forms, including a complex opening with “Although” and a result clause beginning “As a result.” These attempts show some range, but complex structures are often faulty, and errors recur across the response. For example, “these events have potential to brings” has an incorrect verb form, while “which create competitive attitude” does not agree with its subject and lacks an article. In “players … play with opposite team for willing to win,” the grammatical pattern is unclear. The final sentence is incomplete. Practise checking subject–verb agreement, articles, and verb forms, and make sure every sentence has a complete main clause before adding subordinate details.
