Student answer (Band 6.0)

There is an ongoing debate on International sports events some believes that the events such as Olympic or the Football World cup is best way to improve the relationship between the countries, while other believes that these gatherings can cause rivalry between the countries. In my point of view, these international sports event can help the athlete to learn about the culture or food of the country and it also create peace or cooperation among the nations.

One major advantage of organizing this kinds of event is that an athlete can travel different nation where theymeet new people and learn about their culture, food and religious. For instance, FIFA is organizing every four years and it is held at different location. This year it was held at Canada where they know about their culture and food.In addition, these types of gathering can stronger nation relationship not only politically, but also in economically because the ans can come from different places and they stay in hotel, explore the country and food.

On the other side, it also has bad effect like Losing can cause disappointmenr and anger among the fans , while some supportes insult the rival teams or behave aggressively on the field. For example, rival fans may argue or fight when their national teams compete against each other. Moreover, sometimes it will also cause political tensions which will affect their sporting events.

In conclusion, although international events can create rivalry between countries, I believe they are an effective way to promote friendship and unity. This because they encourage people from different culture to interact and respect one another.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.0

You address both sides of the discussion and make your own position clear: you argue that international events can promote cultural understanding and cooperation, while acknowledging that competition may lead to anger or political tension. The examples about athletes visiting host countries and rival fans fighting are relevant. However, some points are asserted rather than fully explained. For instance, the claim that events strengthen relationships economically is not clearly connected to how this leads to friendship between countries, and the reference to Canada is confusing because the event and year are not specified accurately. To develop the response further, explain the causes and consequences of each main point and use precise, well-supported examples.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.5

The response has a clear overall structure: an introduction, a paragraph supporting the benefits, a paragraph presenting drawbacks, and a conclusion that restates your view. Linking phrases such as “For instance,” “In addition,” “On the other side,” and “In conclusion” help readers follow the discussion. This logical organisation is a strength. Some connections between ideas are less smooth, however: the move from cultural learning to economic benefits is abrupt, and “Moreover, sometimes it will also cause political tensions” does not specify what “it” refers to. There are also spacing and punctuation problems that interrupt the flow. Use clearer referencing and connect each supporting detail explicitly to the paragraph’s main idea.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.5

You use relevant topic vocabulary, including “rivalry,” “politically,” “cooperation,” and “political tensions,” and the meaning is generally understandable. There is some attempt to vary expression through phrases such as “gatherings” and “promote friendship and unity.” However, inaccurate word forms, spelling, and collocations are noticeable and sometimes make the reader pause. Examples include “these kinds of event,” “can stronger nation relationship,” and “religious” where a noun such as “religion” is needed. “Disappointmenr” and “supportes” also contain spelling errors. Aim for accurate, natural combinations such as “strengthen relations between nations” and check spelling and word forms carefully before submitting.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0

You attempt both simple and more complex sentence forms, including a contrast in the opening and a subordinate clause in “when their national teams compete against each other.” The main ideas remain understandable, but errors in agreement, articles, plurals, and verb forms occur across the response. For example, “some believes” should be “some believe,” and “these international sports event can help” needs a plural noun. The sentence beginning “One major advantage…” also shifts between singular and plural forms, while “it also create” lacks subject–verb agreement. Punctuation and spacing around sentence boundaries are inconsistent. Practise checking each sentence for a clear subject and correctly matched verb, then review articles and plural endings.
