Student answer (Band 6.0)

International sports events has really become significant in bringing global nations together, encouraging participation and welfare. Some people agree with this view, however, a lot of people argues that the it sparks more competition and rivalry among countries supporting their own teams.

Firstly, these global events bring together people from different countries through participation. It enahnces cultural enagagement and boosts the economy of participating countries. These events also bring sport enthusiasts together showcasing their love for the the game. Furthermore, the spirit of the game is uplifted and the talent of the sportsmen is appreciated irrespective of which country they are playing for. To exemplify, Christian Ronaldo is globally appreciated for his skills irrescpective of the country or league he plays for.

On the contrary, the other segment is of the opposite belief that such global sporting events creates more competition and spark rivalry among nations which are not related to sports. Players and theirs supportes are ofter found fighting with each other supporting their own team and nation. People start defaming other nations and their players as part of this competition. Cricket matches between India and Pakistan are perfect epitome of such incidents where nations start to compete and fight on whole different grounds than just games.

In my opinion, international game competions are really important and necessary for global participation and upkeeping the spirit of sport and its players. It brings the best players on a world level playground to showcase their talent and represent their country. The countries should come together through engaging in these events and stregnthening their ties with other nations.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.0

You address both views and give a clear opinion in the final paragraph: you support international events as a way to promote participation and the spirit of sport. The examples of Cristiano Ronaldo and India–Pakistan cricket help make the discussion relevant. However, the two sides are not developed equally: the benefits are explained through cultural engagement and appreciation of athletes, while the claim that rivalry extends beyond sport is asserted more than explained. Your own position is clearest at the end, but could be stated earlier and supported with a specific reason for how events can strengthen relations despite tensions. Developing these points would make the response more complete and persuasive.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.5

The response has a clear overall structure: an introduction, a paragraph for each view, and a concluding opinion. Paragraphs generally stay focused, and signposts such as “Firstly,” “On the contrary,” and “In my opinion” make the progression easy to follow. This already gives the discussion a coherent shape. To make the links more flexible and precise, avoid relying mainly on formulaic transitions and clarify references such as “the other segment” and “these events.” Some ideas also move quickly from one point to another—for example, from cultural engagement to economic benefits—without explaining their connection. More explicit links between claims and examples would strengthen the flow.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.5

You attempt a range of topic-related vocabulary, including “cultural engagement,” “participation,” “rivalry,” and “showcase their talent.” These choices help communicate the main ideas, but several inaccurate or unnatural expressions limit precision. For example, “upkeeping the spirit of sport” is not a natural collocation, and “global nations” and “world level playground” are awkward. Spelling errors such as “enahnces,” “enagagement,” and “stregnthening,” along with repeated words such as “events” and “countries,” also reduce control. Aim for accurate, natural combinations and check spelling carefully; this will make your vocabulary more effective without needing unnecessarily elaborate wording.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5

You use both simple sentences and longer structures, including a relative clause in “the talent of the sportsmen is appreciated irrespective of which country they are playing for.” The main ideas remain understandable, but some errors in agreement, articles, and sentence construction are noticeable. For example, “International sports events has” should use a plural verb, while “such global sporting events creates” also needs plural agreement. The phrase “a lot of people argues” has the same issue, and “the it sparks” contains an unnecessary article. There are also awkward constructions such as “Players and theirs supportes are ofter found fighting.” Review subject–verb agreement, pronouns, and article use, while continuing to practise accurate complex sentences.
