Student answer (Band 6.0)

While it is suggested by some that international sports programs have potential to build a stronger relationship between countries including whether the Olympics or the Football World Cup, others have opposing view and believe that these events create competition instead of friendship. Although these events can be rival to some extent, overall this approach is beneficial for the nations.

One main reason that why people in favour of international sports events is that they improve diplomatic relationship between the nations. When a host country organise an event and invite other country's players, they get a chance to interact with different country's leaders that might not sometimes possible for every nation. As a result, these events contribute to reduce the conflicts between the nations, which help to maintain the peace in a long-term.

Instead of improving friendship between countries, international game programs create competition according to others. This is because sometimes countries experiencing conflicts from a long time. So, participants shows their aggression and rivelry behavior through their games and event sometimes pass such comments that may hurt feelings of opponent teams. Consequently, this kind of attitude create serious competition rather than building a good relationship.

In my opinion, arranging international competition can brings positive development because player play in the ground with full spirt by following the rules and regulations. People, who visit the another country can learn about their culture, tradition, and lifestyles, which helps them to respect each others prospects. Compitions in a main part of the game, without competition players cannot develop competitive skills and urge of improving their games.

In conclusion, despite having some issues of organise international sports events, I still believe that these events helps to improve relationship of nations.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.0

You discuss both views and make your position clear: you acknowledge that events can create rivalry, but conclude that they are beneficial for relations between nations. The points about diplomatic contact, conflict, and cultural understanding are relevant to the question. However, some ideas are asserted rather than fully explained. For example, the claim that hosting an event lets leaders interact is not supported with a specific illustration, and the discussion of hostile comments and aggression could explain more clearly how these affect relations beyond the competition itself. Your opinion that competition helps players improve is relevant, but it shifts towards sporting development rather than directly explaining whether countries become closer. Develop each point with a clear example and link it back to international friendship or rivalry.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.5

The response has a clear overall arrangement: an introduction, separate paragraphs for the two views, your opinion, and a conclusion. This makes the progression easy to follow, and signposts such as “Instead of” and “In conclusion” help readers recognise the stages of the argument. The organisation is generally effective, though some links between ideas are mechanical or unclear. In the second body paragraph, the move from countries having long-standing conflicts to participants showing aggression needs a more explicit explanation. Similarly, the opinion paragraph combines cultural learning with the value of competition, which are related but would benefit from a clearer connection. Use referencing and transitions more precisely, and organise each paragraph around one main claim supported by explanation.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.5

You use a relevant range of topic vocabulary, including “diplomatic relationship,” “conflicts,” “rivalry,” and “rules and regulations,” so the main ideas are generally understandable. There are also attempts at less common expressions, such as “competitive skills” and “long-term.” However, inaccurate word choice, collocation, and spelling are noticeable and sometimes make the meaning less natural: “international sports programs” is not the best term for events, “rivelry behavior” is misspelled and awkward, and “each others prospects” does not clearly express the intended idea. Some phrases are also imprecise, such as “event sometimes pass such comments.” Build accuracy by learning common collocations for sport and diplomacy, checking spelling, and choosing words that express the intended relationship precisely.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5

You attempt both simple and complex sentence forms, including a concession in the opening (“Although these events…”) and a relative clause in “which helps them to respect…”. The overall meaning is usually recoverable, but some grammatical errors recur in verb agreement, verb forms, articles, and sentence construction. For instance, “a host country organise” needs agreement, “participants shows” has a subject–verb mismatch, and “international competition can brings” uses an incorrect verb form. The sentence beginning “One main reason that why…” is also structurally awkward, while “People, who visit the another country” has problems with the relative clause and article use. Review agreement and verb patterns, and proofread each sentence for a clear subject and correctly formed verb.
