Student answer (Band 6.0)
Nowadays, many countries want to perform best at an international sports events like Olympics or the Football world cup. Some people believe that these events play an essential role to bring countries together. However, other believes that these events create competition between countries. In this essay I will discuss both these views and give my opinion in conclusion.
On the one hand, some people wants to promote international sport events because it's a good way to initiate a friendship with another country. These events play an important role to forget personal grudges and promote each others culture by singing a national anthem at the beginning of the event. For example, India and Pakistan are rival countries, but whenever they are included in a cricket game, both teams appreciate each others culture and give their best to win the game Therefore, sporting events plays an important role to bring countries together.
On the other hand, some people believe that these events create competition, not friendship, between countries. One of the main reasons for this is that audience gets very excited and cross the limits by abusing each other. In some cases, government needs to get involve and make a rule that we are not going to play any kind of sport with one particular country because of safety issues. For example, Iran and Israel governments mutually decided that they are not going to perform in any kind of sport events together because of past accidents where one Iranian fan was killed by Isralies during the 2016 Olympics.
In my opinion, organising a sport events is the best way to build a friendship with other countries because it promots each others culture and shows that both the countries are on the same level. However, because of past incidents some countries are banned for playing together.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.0
You address both views and give a clear preference for the unifying benefits of international sport, so the response covers the main parts of the task. The first body paragraph explains how events can encourage cultural appreciation, and the India–Pakistan cricket example supports that point. The opposing view is also relevant, with discussion of hostile spectators and safety concerns. However, some support is less fully developed: the claim about Iran and Israel is presented as a specific fact without explaining how it demonstrates that sporting events themselves create competition rather than reflect wider political tensions. Your conclusion restates your position but could more directly weigh the two views and clarify why the benefits outweigh the risks. The response meets the stated length requirement; nine words copied from the task prompt were not counted.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.5
The essay has a clear overall structure: an introduction, separate paragraphs for the two views, and a concluding opinion. Signposting such as “On the one hand,” “On the other hand,” and “In my opinion” makes the progression easy to follow, and examples are placed alongside the relevant arguments. This already gives the response a coherent arrangement. To make the flow more flexible and precise, reduce reliance on formulaic transitions and strengthen links between claims and evidence. For instance, the move from audience abuse to government decisions not to compete could be explained more explicitly. Some references, such as “these events” and “both the countries,” are broad or slightly unclear. More precise referencing and smoother connections between sentences would make cohesion less mechanical.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.5
You use enough topic-related vocabulary to communicate the main ideas, including “international sports events,” “personal grudges,” “safety issues,” and “appreciate each others culture.” There are also attempts at more specific expressions, such as “promote” and “mutually decided.” However, word choice and collocation are often inaccurate or repetitive, which limits precision: “perform best at” is not natural for competing, “initiate a friendship” is awkward, and “perform in any kind of sport events” is an unsuitable combination. Spelling errors such as “Isralies” and “promots” also reduce accuracy. Build a more reliable range of natural collocations for discussing competition, diplomacy, and cultural exchange, and check spelling and possessive forms carefully.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5
You attempt both simple and complex sentence forms, including contrast clauses and explanations with “because,” and the overall meaning remains understandable. However, some errors in agreement, articles, plurals, and verb forms recur. For example, “other believes” should be “others believe,” “some people wants” should be “some people want,” and “sporting events plays” should be “sporting events play.” Article and number choices are also inconsistent in phrases such as “an international sports events” and “a sport events.” Punctuation is sometimes missing, notably before “Therefore” and after the sentence about winning the game. Review subject–verb agreement and singular/plural noun patterns, then proofread sentence boundaries. Greater accuracy across these structures would strengthen the response.
