Student answer (Band 5.5)

A group of individuals state that it is a good appoach to bring nations together by organizing international sports events, such as Olympics or the Football World Cup, whereas others believe that these events create more tension than friendship among countries. In this essay, I will discuss both views and explain that Why I agree with the first point of view.

On the one side, there is a no doubt that multinational sports events bring all countries together. This is because, these events offfer a great chance to residents to know about each other countries rituals, cultures, especially languages. By knowing all these things they has been starting respect to each others. Therefore, I believe that it is an excellet way to gather all people at same place. Moreover, not only public but also the government has a major benefit by organizing sport events in their country. They will make a huge revenue from these games. For instance, In year of 2026, Canada organized FIFA world cup, a number of FIFA lovers travelled from different countries to attend Football would cup. As a result, the stayed in Canada a while it helps to the government to make money.

On the other side, according to some people these events create competition. The main reason behind that, they are many nation's players who participate in these games, and several citizens from the different conuntries who come to see these games. So, each countries's people support their own nation team. To cite an example, it is crystal clear that citizens of Spain only support Spain team not others. Consequently, it creates more tension than friensship.

In conclusion, althought sports events create tension between players, I believe that these events offer them to travel different countries to know about culture and many other things.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.5

You address both views and state a clear preference for the idea that international sports can bring countries together. The first body paragraph gives relevant reasons, including cultural exchange and financial benefits, and the example of visitors travelling to Canada supports the economic point. However, the discussion is uneven: the opposing view is mainly explained through people supporting their own teams, without showing clearly how this competition develops into tension between countries. Your conclusion also returns to cultural exchange but does not fully weigh the two views or restate your position with much detail. To strengthen the response, explain the possible causes and consequences of rivalry, then develop your own view with a more specific example and a clearer comparison of the benefits and risks.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.0

The response has a recognisable structure: an introduction, separate paragraphs for the two views, and a conclusion. Signposting such as “On the one side,” “On the other side,” and “In conclusion” helps readers follow the overall direction. Within paragraphs, however, some links are mechanical or unclear. For example, “Therefore” introduces a claim about gathering people, while the next sentence shifts to government revenue without a clear transition. The example about Spain also repeats the point that citizens support their own team rather than explaining the resulting tension. Use clearer cause-and-effect links and make references such as “they” and “these events” precise. A more deliberate progression from reason to explanation to example would make the argument easier to follow.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.5

You use vocabulary relevant to the topic, including “international sports events,” “cultures,” “revenue,” “participate,” and “competition.” There are also attempts at more formal phrasing, such as “To cite an example.” However, inaccurate word choice, collocation, and spelling are noticeable and sometimes make the reader pause: “a good appoach,” “residents to know about each other countries rituals,” and “Football would cup” are examples. Some expressions are also imprecise, such as “gather all people at same place” and “offer them to travel different countries.” Aim for natural topic-specific combinations, and check spelling carefully. Replacing broad or awkward phrases with precise expressions such as “promote cultural exchange” and “attract international visitors” would improve clarity and range.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5

You attempt a mix of simple and complex sentences, including a contrast in the opening and a reason clause beginning “This is because.” The overall meaning is generally recoverable, but errors in sentence structure, agreement, articles, and verb forms occur across the response. For example, “they has been starting respect” has incorrect agreement and an unsuitable verb construction; “each countries's people” has a number and possessive error; and “As a result, the stayed in Canada a while it helps…” joins clauses without correct structure. There are also punctuation problems, such as the comma after “because” and the capitalisation after “For instance.” Practise building accurate complex sentences and check each clause for a clear subject, verb, and appropriate tense.
