Student answer (Band 6.0)
There is a contrasting view about international sports events that whether they encourage cooperation between countries or are a way to form rivalries. Sports has always been an integral part of human history to showcase strength and power. Countries invest highly in sports facilities and athletes to make a name of their nationality on the international stage. These international events with representation from different countries in the world is a means for the people to come together and share the same love for a particular sport. On the other hand it has caused severe competition and anamosity among certain nations as well. I support the claim that these events are a source of friendship and togetherness.
People from different nations with varying cultures, languages and background come together for a single passion, which is sports. Such large scale international events are hosted by a single or a group of nations, this attracts tourists and fans from other countries to come watch their teams perform. The travelling fans discover the culture and explore the hosting nation, local people welcome these admirers of sports ,which builds a bond between them. Even nations with very low travelling foreigners, experience influx of tourists during sport events which supports the local industry and businesses. For example , the fifa world cup in Qatar was the first hosted by an arab country and was monumental for the country in terms of tourism.
But the fact that sports are competitive and sometimes instead of just healthy competition it turns into a full fledged rivalry. Due to this, countries are just focused to beat their rival country instead of just taking it on as justa game. This sense then prevails from their political corridors and into the general public as well. This forms a bad sentiment for the other nation and its people and becomes very dangerous and even turns into violence and riots in sports venues all around the world.
After analyzing both the views, in my opinion, the benefits of holding these events in terms of nation wide collaborations and friendship among the general public outweigh the competitive nature and its affects on nations.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.5
You address both sides of the discussion and state a clear opinion: international events foster friendship, and their benefits outweigh rivalry. The first body paragraph explains how fans meet, experience the host culture and support local businesses, with Qatar’s World Cup as an example. You also explain how sporting rivalry can spread into politics and public attitudes, potentially leading to violence. This covers the task well, but the two views are not developed equally: the friendship argument has a concrete example, while the competition argument is described broadly without a specific illustration or explanation of how often these effects occur. To strengthen the response, develop that side with a relevant example and make the final comparison more precise.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.5
The response has a clear overall structure: an introduction, separate paragraphs for the two views, and a conclusion that restates your position. Ideas generally progress logically, and transitions such as “On the other hand” and “After analyzing both the views” help signal the argument. This is a coherent arrangement, though some links are mechanical or unclear. For example, “Such large scale international events are hosted by a single or a group of nations, this attracts…” joins two complete ideas with a comma, disrupting the flow. The long sentence about travelling fans also contains a confusing pause before “which builds a bond.” Use clearer sentence boundaries and more precise referencing, and connect each example explicitly to the point it supports.
Lexical Resource: Band 6.0
You use an adequate range for the topic, including phrases such as “international stage,” “integral part,” “influx of tourists,” and “political corridors.” These choices help communicate the main ideas, and the meaning remains clear despite some inaccurate or awkward wording. However, several collocations and word forms are not natural, including “make a name of their nationality,” “anamosity,” and “its affects on nations.” “Justa game” and “full fledged rivalry” also show inconsistent spelling or hyphenation. Aim for more precise, conventional combinations and proofread spelling: for instance, describe countries as seeking “international recognition,” and refer to the “effects” of rivalry. This would make the vocabulary more accurate and controlled.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5
You attempt a mix of simple and complex structures, including relative clauses and cause-and-effect sentences, and your main meaning is usually understandable. Some grammatical errors remain, particularly with agreement, sentence boundaries, articles and punctuation. For example, “Sports has always been” has a subject–verb agreement problem, while “These international events … is a means” also mismatches subject and verb. The sentence beginning “Such large scale international events…” is a comma splice, and “People from different nations with varying cultures, languages and background come together” has a plural agreement issue in “background.” Review agreement and use full stops or conjunctions to join independent clauses. More consistent control of these patterns would make your complex sentences clearer.
