Student answer (Band 5.0)
It is often argued that international sports events, such as Olympics or the Football World Cup, are a good way to bring countries together. While some people believe that these events create competition, not friendship, between countries. This essay will discuss both the perspectives before giving my own views.
Firstly, If I talk about the advantages of these comeptitions there are many. The main one is that all the countries come under one roof and compete with each other. It also make the bond of the players from different stronger. The players dont see the other country's player as the enemy, they see them as the healthy competitor. If any thing falls behind for any county's player so other players help him/her. For example, In the recent Asians Games one of the player got injured while doing the hudles in the 400m, so every player present in that event helped him and took him to the medical area.
As we all know that every coin have two sides, there are disadvantages of these events also but there are not many. Sometimes the competition turns into a fight area, so it turns into full team fighting with the other team. For example, Basketball competition is going on and while taking the ball from other team you bulges into one of the player so the other player starts shouting on you and your team players come to support you and other team player come to support the other player and this small argument turns into a fight.
To conclude, There are some disadvantages of these competitions, but we can overlook the advantages it have like team spirit, friendships etc.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.5
You address both views and give a concluding opinion that the benefits outweigh the disadvantages. The examples of athletes helping an injured competitor and a basketball dispute are relevant, so the response stays focused on the question. However, the discussion is only partially developed: the first example supports friendship between individuals, but you do not explain clearly how this brings countries together. The opposing view is illustrated through a hypothetical argument rather than a developed explanation of how international events can create rivalry between nations. Your own position is present, but “we can overlook the advantages” is unclear and appears to contradict your intended meaning. Explain the national-level effects and make your conclusion explicit to develop the response more fully.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.0
The response has a recognisable structure: an introduction, one paragraph for each view, and a conclusion. Sequencing words such as “Firstly,” “For example,” and “To conclude” help signal the stages of the answer. However, progression within paragraphs is limited, and some links are mechanical or unclear. The opening repeats the task’s two positions, while “As we all know that every coin have two sides” is a general transition rather than a clear connection to the argument. The long basketball example also takes up much of its paragraph without a concise explanation of its relevance. Use topic sentences that state each main point, then connect evidence directly to it; clearer referencing and less repetitive linking would improve the flow.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.0
You use enough topic-related vocabulary to communicate the main ideas, including “competition,” “bond,” “healthy competitor,” and “team spirit.” The examples also show an attempt to describe sporting situations. However, the range is limited and several noticeable word-choice, collocation, and spelling errors make parts less natural, such as “comeptitions,” “hudles,” “one of the player,” and “bulges into.” Some expressions are vague or informal for an essay, including “come under one roof” and “fight area.” Choose more precise phrases for international relations and sporting conflict, and check spelling carefully. A wider range of accurate terms such as “foster mutual respect” or “intensify national rivalry” would help express the ideas more precisely.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0
You attempt both simple and more complex sentences, including a conditional example beginning “If any thing falls behind…” and a contrast introduced by “While.” However, complex structures are often faulty, and frequent errors affect clarity. For example, “It also make the bond” has incorrect subject–verb agreement, while “every coin have two sides” has the same problem. The opening “While some people believe…” is a sentence fragment, and “the bond of the players from different” is incomplete. Articles, plurals, and punctuation also need attention. Practise building complete sentences with a clear subject and verb, and check agreement and sentence boundaries. More accurate control of these basic patterns would make your meaning easier to follow.
