Some people believe that international sports events, such as The Olympics or the Football World Cup, are a good way to bring countries together. Others say that these events create competition, not friendship, between countries.

Give reasons for your answer and include any relevant examples from your own knowledge or experience.

Student answer (Band 5.5)

Nowadays it is often debated that global sports such as The Olymics or the football world cup, are no more source of harmoney among countries. While some of the people also have an opinion that such events bring different cultures and community together and promote friendship on international forums. I fully agreed with the latter one that these occasions foster relationshps among different nations.

Some of the people argued that these sports events promote negativity among the players from all over the world, the reason behind it is that that their coaching pressurise them to jusy to win the game and they are compeletly deficient of sportsmanship. This thought proke them to win at any coast without realizing the fact that it is a sport not a battle field. With these intentions they are unable to build good relationships with players of other countries, on the hand there is more rage, compitition among teams.

Contrary to this, few of the people have an opinion that still the positive impacts of such sports are far more than negative ones. They argued that at such huge occasions different teams and players represent their countries' culture and hertiage, also build relationships with other players. The winning team gets appreciation worldwide while others learn to improve their skills and need more practice. Also it is observed that on The Olymics and World cups international players are sitting together, having fun and eating together. Because they donot bring competition out of stadium.

In conclusion, with few efforts and emphasis on sportsmanship rather than on wiinning only we can bring together neighbouring countries and can promote frienship among the leaders and their nations so overall with few excetions these events are a source of healthy cpetition

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.0

You address both views and state your position clearly: you agree that international sporting events foster relationships. The two body paragraphs also give relevant reasons, including pressure on players to win and the opportunity for athletes to share cultures and socialise. However, the discussion is not equally developed. The argument that competition can damage relationships is explained, but the positive case relies mainly on general observations, such as players eating together, without a specific example or fuller explanation of how this builds ties between countries. The conclusion introduces the idea of efforts to promote sportsmanship, but this is not developed earlier. To strengthen the response, explain the effects of each view more fully and support them with a concrete example.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.0

The response has a clear overall structure: an introduction, separate paragraphs for the opposing views, and a conclusion. Transitions such as “Contrary to this” help signal the shift between arguments, and the reader can follow the main line of discussion. However, some connections are mechanical or unclear. For example, “on the hand” does not clearly link the preceding point to the claim about rage and competition, while the final sentence combines several ideas without a clear progression. The positive paragraph also moves from cultural representation to learning skills and then to players socialising, with limited explanation of how these points connect. Use more precise referencing and organise each paragraph around a central claim followed by explanation and an example.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.5

You attempt vocabulary suited to the topic, including “sportsmanship,” “international forums,” “heritage,” and “foster relationships.” These choices show some range beyond basic language. However, spelling and word-choice errors are noticeable and sometimes make the reader pause, as in “Olymics,” “harmoney,” “compeletly,” and “cpetition.” Some phrases are also unnatural or imprecise: “win at any coast” and “bring competition out of stadium” do not express the intended ideas clearly. Aim to learn accurate collocations and check spelling carefully, especially for key terms. More precise expressions such as “intense rivalry” or “promote mutual understanding” would help communicate your arguments more naturally.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0

You use both simple and more complex sentence forms, including a contrast clause beginning “While some of the people…” and a reason clause introduced by “the reason behind it is that…”. The main ideas are generally understandable, but some grammatical errors occur across the response. For example, “I fully agreed” uses an unsuitable verb form for stating your present opinion, and “these occasions foster relationships” is followed by a conclusion whose sentence structure becomes difficult to control. There are also problems with articles and sentence boundaries, particularly in the long opening and final sentences. Practise building complex sentences with clear clause boundaries, and check verb forms and agreement when revising. Shorter, accurately punctuated sentences would improve control.
