Student answer (Band 5.0)

In this modern era, sports plays crucial in every person life and helps to build their future in indoor and outdoor games. A few individuals believe that internatioal sports events, such as the Football World Cup and The Olympics are a best way to bring nations together. Other individuals say that these events create competitons between countries, not friendships. I would like to discuss both the veiw points in upcoming paragraphs.

To begin with, there are several reasons why countries are orgainzied sports events in year to year in different nations. Firstly, when country orgainzied any type of sports events, such as The Football World Cup and The Olympics which not only make a good relations with other countries, but also attract more tourists to travell new country and explore attractions of that country and asissts their economy growth. Secondly, competition is also a good way for countries team to know their skills and sport teams can also helps to improve their skills while playing with other countries teams as well as players can give their best to win their match.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.0

You introduce both views and state that you will discuss them, and the first main paragraph gives relevant reasons why international events may connect countries, including tourism, economic benefits, and teams learning about one another’s abilities. However, the discussion is only partial: the claim that events create competition is not clearly explained, and the point about fans reacting badly to a loss is brief and does not show how this damages relations between countries. Your conclusion mentions strengths and weaknesses but does not clearly state your own opinion, which is required. To strengthen the response, explain each view with a specific example and make your position explicit in both the introduction and conclusion.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.5

The response has a recognisable structure, with an introduction, two body paragraphs and a conclusion. Sequencing phrases such as “To begin with,” “Firstly,” and “On the other hand” help signal the direction of the discussion. However, progression is uneven: the first body paragraph combines tourism, economic growth and sporting competition without clearly separating or developing these points, while the opposing view receives only one short example. “Thirdly” is also confusing because it introduces the first point in that paragraph rather than continuing a clear sequence. Some links between ideas are difficult to follow, particularly the sentence about fans and conflicts. Use topic sentences that directly identify each view, then develop one connected explanation and example in each paragraph.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.0

You use some task-related vocabulary, including “international sports events,” “tourists,” “economy growth,” “competition,” and “relations,” so the main topic is generally clear. However, the range is limited and several inaccurate word choices or collocations make parts of the response difficult to understand. For example, “there are also having lack of drawbacks” does not express a clear meaning, and “strengthness and weakness” is not a natural way to summarise advantages and disadvantages. There are also noticeable spelling errors, such as “internatioal,” “orgainzied,” and “favourtie.” Build a more reliable set of phrases for discussing cooperation and rivalry, and check spelling and word forms carefully before submitting.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0

You attempt both simple and more complex sentences, including the contrastive structure “not only … but also” and a sentence beginning “when country…”. However, complex attempts are often faulty, and frequent errors in agreement, articles, plurals and sentence construction sometimes make the meaning hard to follow. Examples include “sports plays crucial,” “every person life,” and “when country orgainzied any type of sports events”; these need clearer subject–verb agreement and noun forms. The sentence beginning “Firstly, when…” also lacks a clear main clause after the relative clause, while the sentence about fans and conflicts is difficult to parse. Practise building accurate basic sentences first, then add subordinate clauses and check that each sentence has a complete, clearly connected main clause.
