Student answer (Band 5.5)

People have different opinions about the international sports events. Some says it is a good way to bring countries together while others argue that these events create competition, not friendship between countries. I will discuess both views in the upcoming paragraphes along with my opinion.

On the one hand, some people argue that international sports events, such as Olympics or the football world cup bring countries together. The main reason for this is that, people come to watch these matches in one place and they spend time together while cheering for their teams. Some of them become friends as well and later they share a good relationship together. Furthermore, people can learn more about each other cultures by other palyers. For example, In india Virat kohli is famous in all over the world and the people in other countries learn about the coulture of india or the languge beacsue they want to interact and lear more about the country from where the player belongs.

On the other hand, people says that these events create competition, not friendship between countries. The reason for this could be beacuse everyone wants that their country win the champion trophy. And when they lose people start heating other teams players and the countries. Apart form that, in the stadium the enviornment gets heated whenever one team plays better than the other team. People starts argument and even the physical voilence. For instance, during the India and Pakistan match people always gets angry and the management has to make the security tight and they will make sure that the situation is under control.

In my opinion, I will support the second view which says that this event create competitions between countries that people starts hating other country with no reason.

In conclusion, these events should be only for entertainment purpose but people take it on the other level that they can't handle their defeat by other countires.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.0

You discuss both views and state a clear opinion: you support the view that sporting events can increase competition and hostility. The response is relevant, and the examples about fans learning about India through Virat Kohli and tensions during India–Pakistan matches help illustrate the two sides. However, the first view is developed more fully than the opposing view: the claim that spectators may become friends is not supported with a specific example, while the discussion of hostility relies mainly on one rivalry. Your conclusion restates your position but does not add much explanation. To strengthen the response, explain more precisely how international events can foster lasting cooperation, and qualify your own view by acknowledging that outcomes may differ between events or supporters. Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.0

The response has a clear overall structure: an introduction, separate paragraphs for the two views, your opinion, and a conclusion. The signposts “On the one hand,” “On the other hand,” and “In conclusion” make the progression easy to follow. Within paragraphs, however, some links are mechanical or unclear. For example, “Furthermore” introduces a related point, but the move from spectators becoming friends to learning about cultures could be explained more smoothly. The sentence beginning “For example” also runs several ideas together, making the relationship between the player, cultural interest, and language learning difficult to track. Use clearer referencing and connect each example directly to the point it supports; this would make the organisation feel more natural and the argument easier to follow.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.0

You use enough topic-related vocabulary to communicate the main ideas, including “international sports events,” “cheering,” “relationship,” “competition,” and “physical violence.” However, the range is limited and several spelling and word-choice errors reduce precision, such as “heating” for “hating,” “coulture,” “languge,” and “champion trophy.” Some phrases are also unnatural, including “learn more about each other cultures” and “take it on the other level.” These errors do not prevent the reader from understanding the overall argument, but they make parts of it less clear and fluent. Build a more accurate set of collocations for discussing sport and international relations, and proofread spelling carefully. Aim to replace repeated general words such as “people” and “events” with precise alternatives where appropriate.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0

You attempt both simple and more complex sentences, including clauses introduced by “while,” “because,” and “whenever.” This gives the response some structural variety, and the main meaning is generally understandable. However, there are some recurring errors in agreement, articles, and sentence construction. For example, “Some says” and “people says” should use plural verb forms, while “people start argument” needs a plural noun or an article. In “I will discuess both views in the upcoming paragraphes,” the future form is awkward for describing the essay’s structure. Punctuation is also inconsistent, particularly around introductory phrases and the example about Virat Kohli. Review subject–verb agreement and article use, and practise checking each sentence for a complete, clearly connected structure.
