Student answer (Band 6.0)

Dear Sir or Madam,

I am writing in response to the council's feedback. The local council arranged a series of concerts this summer in the community park. However, I have attended one of those, a music concert. It was thrilling. That night was young and memorable.

Without any qualms, I really enjoyed the concert. Firstly, it begins with soft, sentimental music, and I am fascinated with the emotional track. Also, the main highlights were the rappers and a pop song. They made the atmosphere vibrant, and the audience was highly engaged.

Nevertheless, I would recommend some changes for next summer's concert which fosters and contribute to public popularity. Try to double-check the sound quality and the system. Also, try to focus on an entertainment concert including drama and several fun activities so that children find it amazing too.

All the best for your upcoming concert.

yours faithfully,

hets

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.5

You cover all three requested points: you identify the event as a music concert, explain that the rappers and pop song created a vibrant atmosphere, and suggest checking the sound system and adding activities for children. However, the concert is not identified specifically, and the reasons for enjoying it are only briefly described; for example, “That night was young and memorable” does not clearly explain what made it memorable. The improvement ideas are relevant but could be developed with practical detail. The response is also two words below the required minimum. To strengthen the letter, name the concert more precisely and expand on both your experience and how the proposed changes would help attendees.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.5

The letter has a clear overall arrangement: an opening, a paragraph about what you enjoyed, and a final paragraph with suggestions. Linking expressions such as “Firstly,” “Also,” and “Nevertheless” help signal the movement between ideas, and the reader can follow the main message. Some connections are less natural or precise, however. “Without any qualms” does not clearly introduce your reasons for enjoying the event, while “Nevertheless” suggests a contrast that is not fully established. The closing also shifts abruptly from suggestions to “All the best.” To move beyond this generally coherent organisation, use transitions that express the exact relationship between ideas and connect the closing more smoothly to the purpose of giving feedback.

Lexical Resource: Band 6.0

You use a reasonable range of vocabulary for the topic, including “sentimental,” “highly engaged,” and “vibrant,” which help convey the concert’s mood. There are also attempts at less common expressions, but some are inaccurate or unnatural in context. “That night was young” does not communicate the intended meaning clearly, and “a music concert” is too general to identify the event. The phrase “fosters and contribute to public popularity” is also awkward and obscures your suggestion. These choices do not prevent the reader from understanding the main points, but more precise collocations would make the letter sound more natural. Prefer straightforward, accurate wording when describing the event and the benefits of your suggestions.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 6.0

You use a mix of simple and more complex sentence forms, including the purpose clause “so that children find it amazing too,” and most of the message remains understandable. Some grammatical errors are present. In “I have attended one of those,” the present perfect is not appropriate for a completed event this summer; “I attended” would be clearer. “It begins” and “I am fascinated” also shift into the present when describing a past concert, so past forms would maintain consistent tense. In “suggestions … which fosters and contribute,” the verb does not agree with its subject, and the sentence structure is difficult to follow. Check tense consistency, subject–verb agreement, and sentence construction when revising.
