Student answer (Band 6.5)

Dear Sir or Madam,

I am writing in repsonse to your request for feedback regarding the free concerts which were held in our local park this summer.

To begin with, I spent most of my time in the music concert. Actually, I am fond of music since childhood and also learning to sing and play musical instruments in an institute. So naturally I was attracted most towards the musical concert.

The reason I enjoyed the most was that you invited my favourate singer Zayn Malik, whose voice is melodious and mesmarizing. I really enjoyed all of his songs. Luckily, I also got a chance to sing along sharing the stage with him and got his autograph on my diary, which I will cherish for the rest of my life.

Overall, I loved the concept of free concerts. One thing that I would like to bring to your attention is that there was a lot of garbage scattered on the park after the event ended. So for the next time, i would appreciate it if you could arrange a team who would volunteer and take care of the waste and I would also suggest that there should be limitation on the number of people at a time in the park so that it would not get too crowded.

I hope that my feedback would be of any help. Thank you for organizing these concerts.

Yours faithfully,

Hooria Zahid

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 7.0

You address all three points clearly: you identify the music concert, explain your enjoyment through your interest in music and the chance to sing with Zayn Malik, and suggest waste management and crowd limits. The personal details make the positive feedback specific and engaging, while the closing remains appropriate for a formal letter. Your suggestions are relevant, but they could be developed further—for example, explain how the council might manage attendance or provide more bins and cleaning staff. Also, “I spent most of my time in the music concert” is slightly unclear about which concert you attended; naming it directly would make the response more precise. Overall, the task is fully covered, with some scope to extend the practical suggestions.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 7.0

The letter has a clear progression from its purpose, to the concert attended, to reasons for enjoyment, and finally to suggestions. Paragraphing supports this structure, and signposts such as “To begin with,” “The reason,” and “Overall” help the reader follow your points. The personal anecdote about singing on stage and receiving an autograph also fits naturally within the explanation of your enjoyment. Some linking is a little mechanical, however, and “The reason I enjoyed the most” does not connect as smoothly as it could to the previous paragraph. You could use more natural transitions and make the relationship between your general enthusiasm for music and your specific concert experience more explicit.

Lexical Resource: Band 6.0

You use an adequate range for the letter and attempt expressive vocabulary, including “melodious,” “mesmerizing,” “cherish,” and “scattered.” These choices help convey enthusiasm and make the feedback personal. However, several spelling errors—“repsonse,” “favourate,” and “mesmarizing”—reduce accuracy, and some phrases are not quite natural, such as “spent most of my time in the music concert” and “limitation on the number of people at a time.” Aim for precise, idiomatic wording and check spelling carefully, especially in a formal letter. For example, “attended the music concert” and “a limit on the number of attendees” would communicate your meaning more naturally.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 6.5

You use a mix of simple and complex sentence forms, including a relative clause in “Zayn Malik, whose voice is melodious and mesmerizing” and a conditional request beginning “I would appreciate it if you could…”. Most sentences communicate your meaning clearly, and the letter’s overall structure is controlled. Some grammatical and punctuation issues remain. In “I am fond of music since childhood,” the tense pattern is not appropriate; use “I have been fond of music since childhood.” The sentence beginning “So for the next time” would be clearer with a more direct construction, and the lowercase “i” should be capitalised. Review tense choices and sentence boundaries to make your otherwise clear writing more consistently accurate.
