Student answer (Band 6.0)

Dear Sir or Madam,

I am writing to give my opinion about the concert which i attended last week at our local park.

Recently, you organised concerts which was free of cost for everyone in our local park. I attended one of these concerts, that was dance concert. I met popular celebrities during the concert.

I extremely enjoyed the concert because there was my favourite singer. He sang numerous songs and everyone enjoyed it. Similarly, you organised also shops and food trucks in the park, so I ate different type of dishes and did a lot of shoping.

I would reccommend you that you should organsied concerts at the hotel for next summer's concerts. This is because many residents unsatisfied with the congested area and lack of parking there, which cause people parked many vehicles on the road.

I hope this feedback will encourage you and help you for improving the next concerts.

Yours faithfully,

Kaur.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.5

You address all three points: you identify the event as a dance concert, explain that your favourite singer performed and that you enjoyed the food stalls, and suggest a change for next summer. These details make the letter relevant and give the reader a clear sense of your experience. The enjoyment is supported with examples, but the suggestion to hold concerts at a hotel is not fully explained as a practical improvement, and the concern about congestion and parking could be linked more clearly to how the council should respond. The response therefore covers the task, though some ideas are less fully developed than others. Explain why a hotel would solve the problem, or suggest a more specific venue or transport arrangement.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.5

The letter has a clear overall structure: an opening purpose, paragraphs about the event and your enjoyment, a paragraph with a suggestion, and a closing. This makes the main points easy to locate. You also use linking expressions such as “because,” “Similarly,” and “This is because” to show relationships between ideas. However, some links are not fully logical: “Similarly” does not clearly connect the singer’s performance with the shops and food trucks, and the move from recommending a hotel to describing parking problems needs a clearer explanation. Improve progression by grouping related details and using more precise transitions, so the reader can follow how each problem leads to your proposed solution.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.5

You use enough vocabulary to communicate the main experience, including “popular celebrities,” “numerous songs,” “food trucks,” and “congested area.” These choices show some range beyond very basic wording. However, several noticeable spelling and word-choice errors reduce precision, such as “shoping,” “reccommend,” and “organsied.” Some phrases are also unnatural or unclear, including “I extremely enjoyed” and “different type of dishes.” Choose more natural collocations and check spelling carefully; for example, “I thoroughly enjoyed the concert” and “a variety of dishes” would express your meaning more fluently. More precise vocabulary for the proposed improvements would also strengthen the letter.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5

You attempt both simple and more complex sentences, including explanations with “because” and a relative clause in “which cause people parked many vehicles on the road.” The overall meaning is generally understandable, but some grammatical errors remain. For example, “concerts which was free” has a subject–verb agreement error, while “I attended one of these concerts, that was dance concert” has problems with the relative clause and article use. In the final suggestion, “many residents unsatisfied” is missing a verb, and “which cause people parked” does not form a correct clause. Practise checking agreement, articles, and verb forms, especially in longer sentences, while continuing to use a mix of sentence structures.
