Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.5
The letter successfully covers all the required communicative purposes of a general training task. You appropriately greet Akshita, explain why you have moved to Delhi for the Microsoft job, describe your new apartment and the surrounding neighborhood, and invite her to visit over the coming weekend to sightsee and party. The tone is consistently friendly, semi-formal, and entirely suitable for a letter to a friend. The purpose of writing is immediately clear and sustained throughout. Ideas are naturally extended, providing sufficient details about the apartment and your plans for the weekend, meeting the requirements of Band 6.5 to 7.0 descriptors nicely. While the ideas are relevant, they could be slightly more fully developed to reach higher bands, but the current content fully satisfies the communicative needs of the task without any omissions.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.0
The letter is generally coherent and follows a logical organizational structure, moving smoothly from the greeting and news of the job, to the living situation, and finally to the invitation for the weekend. Paragraphing is used appropriately to separate distinct ideas, such as housing in the second paragraph and social plans in the third. Cohesive devices are employed, including transition words like 'Furthermore' and referencing words like 'which' and 'that'. However, some of the referencing and transitional links are slightly mechanical or faulty, such as 'in here, Its a 2 bedroom' and starting sentences with 'And I coundn't abort that'. These minor cohesion slips place the text firmly at a Band 6, where the overall arrangement makes sense, but local cohesion occasionally shows awkwardness or punctuation issues like comma splices.
Lexical Resource: Band 6.0
The lexical resource demonstrates an adequate range of vocabulary suitable for a personal letter, including functional phrases like 'excellent job offer', 'livily neighborhood', and 'take leave from work'. However, there are several noticeable spelling and word choice errors, such as 'estiblished' (established), 'coundn't abort' (couldn't turn down / pass up), 'appartment' (apartment), and 'egarly' (eagerly). Additionally, 'livily' is misspelled and 'abort' is used incorrectly in this context. While you attempt some less common lexical items, these errors in spelling and collocation indicate a Band 6 level. The mistakes do not impede overall communication because the meaning remains clear, but they prevent the writing from achieving a higher band score.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 6.0
You demonstrate a mix of simple and complex sentence forms, utilizing relative clauses ('who were being nice to me', 'which is just in front') and conditional elements effectively. However, there are frequent grammatical and punctuation errors throughout the response. Examples include comma splices ('in here, Its a 2 bedroom'), preposition misuse ('move for new job', 'in weekends' instead of 'on weekends'), and subject-verb or tense inconsistencies ('who were being nice to me'). There are also punctuation issues with contractions and missing apostrophes ('its' instead of 'it's' or 'it is'). These errors occur regularly alongside error-free sentences, which places your grammatical control securely at a Band 6 level, where structures are mixed and errors occasionally distract the reader without entirely blocking comprehension.
