Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 3.0
The response fails to meet the required word count, falling significantly short of the 150-word minimum, which heavily restricts task completion. Furthermore, the writing does not address a standard IELTS task format appropriately, appearing more like a disjointed personal introduction or chat message rather than a structured task response. The purpose of the writing is unclear, and the ideas presented regarding the author's background as a chef, employment history at the Taj Hotel, and future intentions to move to New Zealand are only minimally developed. There is no clear progression or formal addressing of task requirements, meaning the response only touches upon the topic in a very tangential manner.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 4.0
Information and ideas are not arranged in a coherent manner, and the text lacks a logical overall progression. There is a complete absence of proper paragraphing, with the entire response presented as a single, unorganised block of text. The use of cohesive devices is extremely basic and faulty, relying on awkward transitions such as 'than after that' and repetitive connectors like 'as well' to link thoughts. Referencing is frequently unclear, making it difficult for the reader to follow the sequence of events in the writer's personal and professional timeline. Overall, the structural organisation shows severe weaknesses in creating a unified and easy-to-follow piece of writing.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.0
The vocabulary used is basic and repetitive, relying heavily on everyday words and simple functional items. There are numerous noticeable errors in spelling, word form, and word choice that strain the reader and impede communication. Examples include 'bachooler deggre' instead of bachelor degree, 'leveing' for living, 'traninee' for trainee, 'awev' for work, 'parmant' for permanent, and 'ragidany' for residency. While the writer attempts to use some less common occupational terms such as 'chef', 'buffet garmanger', and 'visa', the persistent inaccuracies and non-standard lexical choices demonstrate a limited and strained range that frequently causes difficulty for the reader.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 4.5
The grammatical range is very limited, consisting mainly of broken simple sentences and failed attempts at complex structures. Errors are extremely frequent throughout the text, involving incorrect verb tenses, missing auxiliary verbs, faulty prepositions, and poor sentence boundaries, such as 'I am complete my bachooler deggre' and 'before i start as traninee cook than after that i am as chef'. Punctuation and capitalization are largely ignored, and basic subject-verb agreement is frequently violated. These persistent errors distort meaning and make it very difficult for the reader to parse the grammatical relationships between ideas.
