Student answer (Band 5.5)

Dear Sir or Madam,

I am writing to share my review about the recently organised free concert by local city council as per your request.

I managed to get tickets for Garba night concert. I am an enthusiast when it comes to Garba night concerts. I loved to see that culutural deeply rooted in the histrory of the Gujarat and it brought a sense of togetherness when I saw peope from around the globe with different ethenicities gathered to celebrate this eventful night.

Coming from the province where garba originated, it was quite difficult to tell the difference between the traditional way we enjoy it and the one at the concert night. Hence, I really enjoyed after concert cultural food event arrangement as well.

I would love to see if the it can be organized again in the future but with little more varity in food and if you can make the treditional outfit co

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.5

You identify the concert as a Garba night and explain your enjoyment through its cultural significance, the sense of togetherness, and the food event. These are relevant details, but the feedback is unevenly developed: the reasons for enjoying the concert are clearer than the suggestions for improvement. You begin to recommend more food variety and traditional outfits, but the final sentence is cut off at “co”, so the council cannot understand the complete suggestion. The response also does not clearly explain what aspect of the concert itself you enjoyed beyond its cultural atmosphere. To strengthen the letter, complete the recommendations and make each one specific and practical.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.5

The letter has a recognisable structure: an opening purpose, a paragraph about the concert and its appeal, and a final paragraph attempting to offer suggestions. This gives the reader some overall organisation. However, progression is not consistently clear. The transition “Hence” does not clearly show how the food event follows from the comparison with traditional Garba, and the final paragraph becomes difficult to follow because it ends mid-sentence. Some ideas are also crowded together, particularly the long sentence about people from different backgrounds gathering. Use clearer links between your experience and each recommendation, and separate the enjoyment points from the practical suggestions to make the message easier to follow.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.5

You use some topic-specific vocabulary effectively, including “Garba,” “cultural,” “togetherness,” and “ethnicities,” which helps convey the event’s character. There are also attempts at more descriptive phrasing, such as “deeply rooted” and “eventful night.” However, spelling and word-choice errors are noticeable, including “culutural,” “histrory,” “peope,” “ethenicities,” “varity,” and “treditional.” Some expressions are also unnatural or imprecise, such as “share my review about” and “cultural food event arrangement.” These do not prevent the general meaning from being understood, but they reduce clarity and control. Proofread carefully and choose more natural collocations, such as “provide feedback on” and “a cultural food event.”

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5

You attempt a mixture of simple and more complex sentences, for example, “I loved to see that…” and “Coming from the province where garba originated…”. The meaning is generally recoverable, but several sentence patterns are faulty or incomplete. “I loved to see that cultural deeply rooted…” lacks a clear grammatical structure, while “I really enjoyed after concert cultural food event arrangement” has unclear article and word-order patterns. The final sentence, beginning “I would love to see if the it can be organized…”, contains an unnecessary article and does not reach a complete clause. Aim for complete sentences with a clear subject and verb, and check articles and sentence boundaries when combining ideas.
