Student answer (Band 7.0)

Dear Sir or Madam,

I hope this letter finds you well. I am writing to provide a feedback on the free concert organised by local council this summer. I attended the live music concert held in july, and I would like to express my apperication for this wonderful event.

The concert was an amazing and enjoyable experience for me as perfromers were extremely talnted and presented a variety of including pop, folk and classical. The atomsphere was lovely and welcoming, and people of all ages enjoyed well. In addition, beautiful outdoor sitting arrangement allowed families to sit and relax while listening music. I particularly appreciated the fact that the event was free, making it accessible to everyone in the community.

However, I would like to suggest a few improvements for next summer. The council should provide more seating areas for elderly people and families with young children. Furthermore, additional food stalls and drinking water stations would make the expeience more convenient for visitors. Advertising the events earlier could help more residents to plan their visitis.

Overall, I believe that concert was great and I hope that the council will continue to organise such events in the future.

Thank you for providing our community with such an enjyoable experience.

Yours faithfully,

Ramanpal Kaur Brar

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 7.5

You address all three points clearly: you identify the July live music concert, explain your enjoyment through the performers, atmosphere, seating and free entry, and suggest more seating, food stalls, water stations and earlier advertising. Your positive overall view is consistent, and the letter’s purpose is clear. The reasons for enjoying the event are relevant and supported with specific details, such as families being able to relax outdoors. To make the response more fully developed, explain one or two suggestions in greater detail—for example, where water stations could be placed or how earlier promotion might reach residents. The concert is identified broadly rather than by a particular programme or performer, so a more precise description would also strengthen the response.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 7.5

The letter has a clear progression: an opening that states its purpose, a paragraph describing the concert, a paragraph of recommendations, and a concluding expression of appreciation. Linking phrases such as “In addition,” “However,” and “Furthermore” help readers follow the shift from praise to suggestions. The ideas within each paragraph are generally grouped appropriately, and the closing is suitable for a formal letter. Some connections are a little mechanical because several points are simply added in sequence. You could improve flow by linking each recommendation to its effect on visitors, and by using clearer references where needed—for instance, specifying what “the event” refers to when moving between the concert and the wider series.

Lexical Resource: Band 6.0

You use an adequate range of vocabulary for the topic, including “accessible,” “welcoming,” “seating areas,” and “convenient,” which communicate your feedback effectively. There are also attempts at more descriptive language, such as “wonderful event” and “beautiful outdoor sitting arrangement.” However, several spelling errors—“apperication,” “talnted,” “atomsphere,” and “enjyoable”—and inaccurate or unnatural combinations such as “presented a variety of” and “enjoyed well” reduce precision. Some wording is also repetitive, particularly “concert” and “enjoyable.” Aim to check spelling carefully and learn natural collocations for describing performances, facilities and audience experiences. More precise vocabulary would make the positive comments and recommendations sound more fluent and polished.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 6.5

You use a mix of simple and complex sentence forms, including a relative clause in “the concert held in July” and a participial phrase in “making it accessible to everyone.” Most sentences communicate their main meaning, and the paragraphing helps keep the message understandable. Some grammatical errors remain, including the article in “provide a feedback,” the missing article in “organised by local council,” and the construction “allowed families to sit and relax while listening music.” The sentence about the performers also lacks a clear grammatical structure after “presented a variety of.” Review articles, prepositions after verbs, and sentence completeness, and check punctuation and capitalisation. Greater accuracy in these areas would build on the range of structures already attempted.
