IELTS Writing Task 1 question
This summer your local council organised a series of free concerts in your local park. You attended one of the concerts. The council has asked for feedback about the concerts.
Write a letter to the council giving your feedback. In your letter
say which concert you attended
explain why you enjoyed the concert
make suggestions for improving next summer's concerts
You do NOT need to write any addresses.
Begin your letter as follows:
Dear Sir or Madam,
Student answer (Band 6.5)
Dear Sir or Madam,
I am writing in regards to the feedback requested by the council on the recent concerts that took place. Out of all the concerts of MJ Ram, I attended the one that took place on September 24, 2026 in the Mill side of Devi's Park.
In the concert, there were several things that I enjoyed such as nice structuring, seating arrangements as well as colour-coded bracelets for easy access. Moreover, the idea of having fans in the hot weather was a doom for the audience. The entire atmosphere was surreal and it will always be a core memory of mine.
I admired that the council took the initiative to hold free concerts this summer. But there were some main issues that can't be neglected. Firstly, the lack of water supply and secondly nearly no washrooms being avaliable for the attending audience. Due to which it was really difficult for anyone to enjoy the concert to their fullest. I would be grateful if the council look after these problems and try to improve them for next summer's concerts.
I hope this feedback will put some light on the audience's emotions during the concert.
Your faithfully,
Mehakdeep

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.0
You cover all three requirements: you identify the MJ Ram concert and give its date and location, describe enjoyable features such as the seating and atmosphere, and suggest addressing water and washroom provision. The positive and negative feedback is relevant and your purpose is clear. However, some points are less fully developed than others. For example, “nice structuring” does not explain what was well organised, and the suggestion to improve facilities would be more useful if you specified practical changes, such as adding water stations and portable toilets. The comment about fans in hot weather is also unclear, so the reader cannot tell whether they were helpful or problematic. Clarifying these details would make the feedback more complete and persuasive.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.5
The letter has a clear overall arrangement: an opening that states its purpose, a paragraph about the concert experience, and a final paragraph raising concerns and requesting improvements. Linking expressions such as “Moreover” and “Firstly” help signal relationships between ideas, and the reader can follow the main message. Some connections are less smooth or precise, however. “Due to which” begins a sentence fragment, while “I hope this feedback will put some light on…” does not connect naturally to the specific suggestions just made. The list of positive features also moves quickly from organisation to fans and atmosphere. Use complete sentences and clearer transitions to show how each detail supports your evaluation.
Lexical Resource: Band 6.0
You use an adequate range of vocabulary for a feedback letter, including “initiative,” “atmosphere,” “seating arrangements,” and “lack of water supply.” Some less common expressions are attempted, but several are inaccurate or unnatural in context. “A doom for the audience” appears to mean that the fans were helpful, while “put some light on” is not the usual expression for drawing attention to an issue. “Nice structuring” is also vague, and “core memory” is informal for this letter. There is a spelling error in “avaliable.” Choose precise, natural collocations and maintain a consistently polite, semi-formal tone; this will make your meaning clearer without requiring more elaborate vocabulary.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 6.5
You use a mix of simple and more complex sentence forms, including the opening purpose statement and the sentence beginning “I would be grateful if…”. Most of the message remains understandable, and punctuation generally separates the main paragraphs and ideas. Some grammatical errors remain. “Due to which it was really difficult…” is not a complete sentence; connect it to the preceding sentence or write “As a result, it was difficult…”. In “I would be grateful if the council look after these problems,” the verb form should be “looked into” or “would address.” The closing “Your faithfully” also needs the correct form, “Yours faithfully.” Greater control of complete clauses and conditional structures would strengthen the letter.
