Dear Sir or Madam,
Student answer (Band 6.0)
Dear sir or madam,
I am writing to you regarding the The Green Intiative concert which I recently attented in the local council which was absolutely free as well as worth attending. There were few others focusing on topics such as technology, science. Although they were quite interesting, but watching a concert with a ecofriendly theme was a really eye opener to many residents.
I particularly enjoyed the concert's theme which focused on decorating the stage with sustainable items made from reusable products, especially the mics were made of 70% ecofriendly equipment. Such concerts which include both fun activities as well as awareness about using recycled items not only focused on environmental issues, but also provided us with a sustainable option for clutter free environment.
I would want to suggest few ideas pertaining to next summer's concerts which can include fun outdoor activities for all the age groups such as Zumba classes for elderly, clay activities for children and music and singing for adults which will engage more participation. If there are any further queries regarding this issue we can held a joint meeting and come to a conclusion. Looking forward for your response.
Yours Sincerly,
James Matthew.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.5
You address all three points: you identify “The Green Initiative” concert, explain that its environmental theme and reusable stage materials appealed to you, and suggest activities for next summer. The reasons for enjoying it are relevant, and the examples of activities for different age groups make your suggestions concrete. However, the concert description is not fully clear—for example, the reference to microphones made from “70% ecofriendly equipment” is difficult to interpret—and the improvement ideas are listed more than explained. The offer to hold a joint meeting is also less directly useful than a specific practical suggestion about organising the concerts. More precise details about what worked and how your proposals would improve the event would strengthen the response.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.5
The letter has a clear overall arrangement: it introduces the concert, explains what you enjoyed, and then turns to suggestions. Paragraphing supports this progression, and phrases such as “I particularly enjoyed” and “I would want to suggest” help signal each stage. Some connections are less smooth or clear, however. “Although they were quite interesting, but…” uses two contrasting markers together, while the opening sentence contains several ideas that make the main point harder to follow. The final offer of a meeting and request for a response also feel somewhat detached from the suggestions. Use simpler links between ideas and make each paragraph develop one main point to improve the flow.
Lexical Resource: Band 6.0
You use a relevant range of vocabulary for the topic, including “sustainable,” “reusable,” “environmental issues,” and “participation.” These choices show an attempt to use more specific language than basic descriptions, and the meaning is generally understandable. Some word choices and collocations are inaccurate or unclear, such as “a ecofriendly theme,” “70% ecofriendly equipment,” and “clutter free environment.” There are also spelling errors in “attented” and “Sincerly,” which reduce accuracy. Aim for natural combinations and precise wording: for instance, explain what the microphones were made from rather than describing them as equipment, and use “a clutter-free environment.” Proofreading spelling and repeated phrases such as “concert” would make the vocabulary more controlled.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5
You attempt a mix of sentence forms, including longer sentences with relative clauses and paired structures, as in “Such concerts which include both fun activities as well as awareness…” This gives the letter some variety, and the main message remains understandable. However, several grammatical errors occur in these more ambitious sentences. “Although they were quite interesting, but…” incorrectly combines two contrast structures; “a ecofriendly theme” needs the correct article; and “we can held a joint meeting” has an incorrect verb form. The opening sentence also has an unnecessary repeated article in “the The Green Initiative concert.” Work on articles, verb forms, and sentence boundaries, and simplify complex sentences when needed so that more of them are accurate.
