Student answer (Band 6.5)

Dear Sir/Madam,

I am writing to give my feedback on the Classical Music Concert held on 30th May 2026 at Festival Ground organised by the Adelaide Council.

First, I must say that I really enjoyed the concert. The council has the credits on selecting very talented singers and the band. They were really good. Food and the drinks were also good in quality and affordable.

However, only drawback was the weather on that day. It was a very warm and humid. So, the outdoor concert was not a best idea. Most of my friends who had bought the tickets didn't come to the concert due to the uncomfortable weather conditions. I would recommend to have few more drinking stalls around the area next summer, so that people could buy drinks to cool down and enjoy music despite the weather.

Overall, it was a great experience for me and I really enjoyed with my friends. I recommend people to not to miss this summer concert and get tickets early as possible.

Thank you.

Kind regards,

Sumitha Gunatilake

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.5

You address all three points: you identify the classical music concert and its date, explain that you enjoyed the performers and affordable refreshments, and suggest adding drinking stalls. The positive feedback is clear, and the weather provides a relevant reason for your suggestion. However, some ideas are less fully developed than others: the performers are described mainly as “really good,” without a specific example, and the suggestion focuses on drinks rather than broader ways to make the event comfortable. The closing recommendation to attend and buy tickets early is less directly useful as feedback to the council. To strengthen the response, explain what made the performance memorable and offer one or two practical improvements linked to the audience’s experience.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.5

The letter has a clear overall arrangement: an opening that states its purpose, a paragraph praising the concert, a paragraph describing the drawback and proposing a solution, and a closing. Sequencing phrases such as “First,” “However,” and “Overall” help the reader follow the shift from praise to criticism. The connection between the hot weather and the suggestion for more drinking stalls is also understandable. Some linking is a little mechanical, and the final recommendation to the public shifts away from the letter’s purpose of giving the council feedback. You could improve progression by grouping each point more tightly and ending with a direct, courteous summary of what the council should retain or change.

Lexical Resource: Band 6.0

Your vocabulary is adequate for communicating the main points, with relevant expressions such as “talented singers,” “affordable,” and “uncomfortable weather conditions.” You also attempt more specific language about the event and its setting. However, some word choices and collocations are inaccurate or unnatural, including “the council has the credits on selecting,” “a very warm and humid,” and “enjoyed with my friends.” These do not prevent understanding, but they limit precision and naturalness. Aim to learn common word partnerships and use more varied language to describe the performance and audience experience. For example, “deserves credit for selecting” and “the weather was very warm and humid” would express your meaning more naturally.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 6.0

You use a mix of simple sentences and more developed structures, including the explanation beginning “Most of my friends who had bought the tickets…” and the recommendation introduced by “so that.” The message remains clear despite some grammatical errors. These include the article and adjective pattern in “a very warm and humid,” the article in “not a best idea,” and the infinitive construction in “recommend people to not to miss.” The sentence “I really enjoyed with my friends” also needs a different grammatical pattern. Review articles, infinitives after verbs such as “recommend,” and the difference between “enjoyed the concert” and “enjoyed myself.” More accurate control of these forms would make the letter smoother while preserving its range.
