Student answer (Band 6.0)
Dear Sir or Madam,
I am writing to provide a feedback about the counsil concert. It was a good opportunity to me to attend one of the concert. I attend to the dancing concert and it was well organized. All the dancing groups danced really well.
It is a long time since I enjoyed a dancing concert. I used to dance when I was in school. After that I believe this was the first concert I enjoyed most. It was really interesting to see that children also danced to modern music. In addition to that the lighting and the sound quality in the concert was well balanced through out the event.
Furthermore, I would suggest that it would be more interesting if you can include more traditional dancing groups into the concert. Also I would like to suggest to increase show time of the dansing concert. Furthermore, It would be more easy if you could make a map to show which area for the concerts. It it difficulty to find places for concerts since there are series of concerts.
Kind regards,
Thilan Senawirathna.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.5
You address all three points: you identify the dancing concert, explain that you enjoyed the performances and the lighting and sound, and offer suggestions for next summer. The personal detail about having danced at school helps explain your interest, while the suggestions about traditional groups, a longer show and a map are relevant. This meets the core task well. Some points are less fully developed, however: you do not say what made the event well organised, and the reasons for extending the show or providing a map could be explained more clearly. To strengthen the letter, add a specific example of what worked well and briefly explain how each proposed change would benefit concertgoers. The tone and purpose are appropriate throughout.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.5
The letter has a clear overall arrangement: an opening, a paragraph about your experience, a paragraph of suggestions and an appropriate closing. The ideas generally progress in a sensible order, and linking expressions such as “In addition to that” and “Furthermore” help connect points. However, “Furthermore” is repeated, making the links somewhat mechanical, and the final paragraph places several suggestions together without clearly separating or developing them. The sentence about finding concert locations is also difficult to follow because the relationship between the series of concerts and the need for a map is not fully explained. Use a wider range of natural transitions and organise each suggestion with a brief reason or benefit to make the progression clearer.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.5
You use enough vocabulary to communicate the main ideas, including relevant terms such as “dancing groups,” “traditional,” “lighting” and “sound quality.” The reader can understand your feedback, but several noticeable spelling, word-choice and collocation errors limit precision: “counsil,” “dansing,” “provide a feedback,” and “increase show time” are examples. Some wording is also repetitive, particularly “concert” and “suggest.” These issues do not prevent the message from being understood, but they make parts sound less natural. Check spelling carefully and learn common combinations such as “give feedback,” “attend a concert” and “extend the performance.” More precise alternatives for describing the event and its improvements would also make the letter more fluent.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5
You attempt both simple and more complex sentences, including “It is a long time since I enjoyed a dancing concert” and a conditional suggestion beginning “if you can include.” The overall meaning remains clear, but some grammatical errors recur. For example, “It was a good opportunity to me” has an incorrect preposition, “I attend to” uses the wrong verb pattern and tense, and “the lighting and the sound quality … was” has a subject–verb agreement problem. The conditional suggestions would be more consistent as “it would be more interesting if you included…” Also, “It it difficulty to find places” contains errors in sentence structure. Practise accurate past-tense reporting and conditional forms, and proofread articles, agreement and sentence boundaries.
