Dear Sir or Madam,
Student answer (Band 6.5)
Dear Sir or Madam,
I appreciate you taking the time to read this letter. My name is Jasmeen Kaur,a local resident of city Patiala. I am formally writing to express my opinion about the recent singing concert, I have attended in my town. I am quite impressed by the theme of the show as many people are not aware of the hologram concerts. It is one of the best live shows I have ever attended.
I have really enjoyed this show because it was in the remembrance of famous singer of the punjab who died unfortunately a six months ago due to a tragic incident. Moreover, he did a great amount of charity work in the society to help people in need. The performance was amazing as the digital visuals made the performance feel almost real.
However, I felt that the sitting space was limited. Therefore, it woud be perfect if next time there will be a more sitting space for the public so the next time people would be more comfortable in attending the show. Also, I would appreciate if lighting would also be improved as this time I felt it was a bit dull and boring. Again, thank you so much for your wonderful concerts in this summer. I hope you will consider my suggestions and made a small improvements in the next upcoming shows to enhance the experience.
I look forward to seeing these improvements implemented in your future events.
Yours sincerely,
Jasmeen

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 7.0
You address all three points clearly: you identify the event as a hologram singing concert, explain your enjoyment through its tribute to a charitable Punjabi singer and its realistic digital visuals, and suggest more seating and improved lighting. Your positive view is clear throughout, and the reasons are relevant and supported with detail. The suggestions are practical, although the seating point is repeated (“more sitting space” and people being “more comfortable”) rather than extended with a distinct detail, such as providing additional chairs or reserving accessible areas. Naming the singer or giving a specific example of the charity work could also make the account more precise. Overall, the letter fulfils its purpose and develops the main ideas effectively, with some scope for more specific support.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 7.0
The letter follows a clear progression: it introduces the concert, explains why it was enjoyable, then turns to improvements and closes politely. Paragraphing supports this sequence, and linking expressions such as “Moreover,” “However,” and “Therefore” help readers follow the relationships between ideas. The main opportunity is to make connections less repetitive and more natural. For example, “next time” appears twice in the seating suggestion, while “Again” and “I hope” both contribute to the closing. The opening also combines several purposes in one long sentence, which makes the transition from introduction to opinion slightly abrupt. More varied referencing and tighter links between each suggestion and its effect would make the organisation feel more polished.
Lexical Resource: Band 6.0
You use an adequate range for a feedback letter, including topic-specific expressions such as “hologram concerts,” “digital visuals,” “charity work,” and “enhance the experience.” These choices communicate the event and your reactions clearly, and you attempt some less common language. However, several word choices and collocations are inaccurate or awkward, including “sitting space,” “in the remembrance of,” and “made a small improvements.” “Singing concert” is also less natural than a more precise description of the performance. There are spelling and form slips such as “woud” and “punjab,” which reduce accuracy but do not prevent understanding. Aim for natural collocations and check spelling and word forms carefully.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 6.0
You use a mix of simple and complex sentence forms, including clauses introduced by “because,” “as,” and “if,” and the meaning remains clear. Some sentences are controlled, such as “The performance was amazing as the digital visuals made the performance feel almost real.” However, some grammatical errors remain. In “I am formally writing …, I have attended,” the comma joins clauses incorrectly and the tense construction is awkward; “I have attended” should be integrated into a relative clause. The conditional suggestion “if next time there will be” needs a more suitable structure, such as “if there were” or “if you provided.” There are also article, agreement, and punctuation issues in “a six months ago” and “made a small improvements.” More accurate clause construction and proofreading would strengthen control.
