Student answer (Band 6.5)
Dear Sir,
I am writing this letter to share my feedback about your recent singing concert which was held in the local park.
I was free on saturday evening, so I decided to join your singing concert. As it was free for everyone, I invited some of my friends as well. It allowed me to take a break from my daily busy schedule and relax with my friends. The energy which singers has shown during their performances was amazing, all my friends have enjoyed a lot. Moreover, I like the fact that this concert gave local singers an opportunity to showcase their talent on the stage.
However, there were some shortcomings which I have felt such as there were not adequate seats for audience. As a result, some people had to stand to watch the performances. Secondly, the weather was a bit hot on that day, perhaps if you could have arranged fans for cooling, It would have been great. Apart from this, the overall experience was excellent.
Regards,
Iqbal

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.5
You address all three points: you identify the singing concert, explain that it offered a relaxing break and showcased local performers, and suggest more seating and fans. These are relevant, specific details, and the positive tone is appropriate for feedback to the council. The enjoyment is supported by your experience with friends, although the reasons could be developed further—for example, by describing a particular performance or its atmosphere. Your improvement suggestions are clear, but you could explain how they would benefit more attendees. The response therefore covers the task well overall, while some ideas remain less fully extended than others.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.5
The letter follows a sensible progression from its purpose, to your experience, to shortcomings and suggestions, and finally to an overall evaluation. Linking expressions such as “Moreover,” “However,” and “As a result” help readers follow the points. The contrast between enjoyment and practical concerns is also clear. Some connections are less smooth: the sentence beginning “However, there were some shortcomings” continues into a long construction with “such as there were,” making the relationship between the general point and the example awkward. Consider separating the seating and weather issues into distinct sentences or paragraphs. The organisation is coherent, though some linking is mechanical and paragraphing could make the feedback easier to scan.
Lexical Resource: Band 6.5
You use an adequate range of vocabulary for the purpose, including “showcase their talent,” “shortcomings,” and “overall experience,” which communicate your views clearly. The wording is generally understandable, and you vary expressions for the concert and its effects. Some choices are less natural or precise, such as “singing concert,” “daily busy schedule,” and “fans for cooling”; more idiomatic phrasing would make the letter sound more fluent. “The energy which singers has shown” also contains an awkward word combination, though the intended meaning is clear. Continue building collocations for events and audience facilities, and check spelling and capitalisation, as in “Saturday.” These refinements would add flexibility and precision.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 6.0
You use a mix of simple and more complex forms, including the reason clause “As it was free for everyone” and the conditional suggestion “if you could have arranged fans … it would have been great.” Meaning remains clear throughout. Some grammatical errors persist, however. In “the energy which singers has shown,” the subject and verb do not agree; “singers” requires “have.” Tense choices are also inconsistent: “I like the fact” shifts to the present while describing a past concert, and “all my friends have enjoyed” would fit the past narrative better as “enjoyed.” The long sentence about shortcomings is awkwardly joined, and “It” after the comma should not be capitalised. More consistent tense control and cleaner sentence boundaries would improve accuracy.
