make suggestions for improving next summer's concerts
You do NOT need to write any addresses.
Begin your letter as follows:
Dear Sir or Madam,
Student answer (Band 6.5)
Dear Sir or Madam,
I am writing to share my review of the free concerts organised by Bayside Council in our local park. There were three concerts held on that day, which started at 10 am and lasted until 3 pm. I managed to attend the K-pop-style concert, which was performed by local Bayside primary school students.
The concert was very good. I enjoyed it so much because my granddaughter participated in it. The girls aged between 8 and 10 wore beautiful anime costumes, and the boys looked sleek and straight, like how we watch K-dramas on Netflix. I laughed and clapped, and I had fun having free popcorn distributed by the local charity. But one thing I would like to suggest is to provide more chairs because the elderly people never get the chance to sit because the crowd was large and the seats are filled on a first-come, first-served basis. With this, I do hope the event will be maintained every year, as it brings good harmony and community to gather, which is so fun to look forward to,
Sincerely,
Aruvi

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 7.0
The letter addresses all three requirements: you identify the K-pop-style concert and its performers, explain that you enjoyed seeing your granddaughter and the lively costumes and refreshments, and suggest providing more chairs. Your positive view is clear, and the personal detail makes the feedback engaging. The suggestion is relevant, but it would be stronger if you explained more precisely how the council could address the seating problem—for example, by adding reserved seating for older attendees or increasing the number of chairs. The closing hope that the event continues is also clear, though the phrase about bringing “good harmony and community” is broad. More specific feedback on the concert’s organisation would make the ideas more fully developed.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.5
The information follows a sensible order: you introduce the purpose, describe the concert, give reasons for enjoying it, and finish with a suggestion and a positive closing. Linking phrases such as “because” and “But one thing I would like to suggest” help show how the ideas relate. However, most of the letter is presented in two long paragraphs, and the second combines enjoyment, the seating problem, and your concluding hope. This makes the shift from praise to constructive feedback less clear than it could be. Use separate paragraphs for the concert experience and recommendations, and divide the long sentence beginning “But one thing” into shorter units. The final sentence also ends with a comma, which weakens the sense of closure.
Lexical Resource: Band 6.5
You use a suitable range of vocabulary for a friendly but formal feedback letter, including “participated,” “distributed,” “first-come, first-served basis,” and “community.” These choices communicate the event and your experience clearly. Some expressions are less natural or precise in context: “K-pop-style concert” could be described more directly as a K-pop performance, while “the boys looked sleek and straight” does not clearly convey what you mean about their appearance. “Good harmony and community to gather” is also an awkward collocation. Aim for precise descriptions of the performers and the event’s community value, rather than relying on broad or unclear phrases. Overall, the vocabulary is adequate and sometimes varied, but more natural collocations would improve fluency.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 6.5
The letter includes both simple and more complex sentence forms, such as “I enjoyed it so much because my granddaughter participated in it” and the clause explaining that seats are allocated on a first-come, first-served basis. Most meanings remain clear, but some sentence construction and punctuation need more control. In “There were three concerts held on that day, which started at 10 am,” the relative clause could refer to either the concerts or the day; make the reference explicit. The long sentence beginning “But one thing I would like to suggest” joins several ideas and would be clearer if divided. The final sentence ends with a comma rather than a full stop. More consistently controlled complex sentences and sentence boundaries would strengthen accuracy.
