Student answer (Band 6.0)

Dear Sir,

I hope you are doing well. I want to congratulate everyone in your team for organising such wonderful events for the public. I am writing today to give my valuable insight in one of the concert which I have attended.

First of all, your had oragnised five different concerts which was totally appreciable. All concerts were from genre where you make sure people can enjoy the music according to their interest. Furthermore, my taste of music is jazz, therefore, I attended the concert where all local artists were performed and which happened at the third day of the event. I must say it was fantastic.

Moreover, what made me more amazed that, they were all newcomers and it was their first performance. The main highlight was their guitarist, he was a teenager. But, he played like a professional and the whole crowed was hooting and singing altoughter. The overall ambience was very energetic and I enjoyed the night fully.

Although, what I feel there are less arrangements for sitting, which I feel problematic for elderly people.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.0

You identify the concert clearly: it was the jazz event featuring local artists on the third day. You also explain your enjoyment with relevant details, including the young guitarist’s performance and the energetic crowd. The final point about limited seating, especially for elderly attendees, is a useful improvement suggestion. However, the task asks for suggestions for next summer’s concerts, and this is the only specific suggestion; it would be stronger to explain how seating could be improved and add another practical idea, such as more sheltered areas or clearer event information. The opening also refers to “one of the concert” without immediately naming it, so a more direct statement would make the purpose clearer. Overall, the main parts are addressed, but some are developed more fully than others.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.0

The letter has a generally clear sequence: an opening, details about the event, an explanation of what you enjoyed, and a concern about seating. Paragraphing helps separate these points, and connectors such as “First of all,” “Furthermore,” and “Moreover” guide the reader through the account. However, some linking is mechanical, and the final paragraph feels abrupt: “Although” introduces a contrast but is not followed by a complete contrasting idea. References such as “they” in “they were all newcomers” are understandable but could be made more precise by naming the performers. A more complete closing paragraph, followed by an appropriate sign-off, would give the letter a clearer finish and improve its overall progression.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.5

You use a reasonable range of vocabulary for describing the event and your reaction, including “local artists,” “main highlight,” “professional,” and “energetic.” These choices help convey enthusiasm and make the account relevant. However, several word choices and collocations are inaccurate or unnatural, such as “give my valuable insight in,” “from genre,” and “enjoyed the night fully.” There are also spelling errors in “oragnised,” “crowed,” and “altoughter,” which reduce the accuracy of the writing. Aim for natural combinations such as “provide feedback on,” “different musical genres,” and “enjoyed the evening immensely.” More precise vocabulary for your proposed improvements would also help make the feedback more useful to the council.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5

You attempt a mix of simple and complex sentences, including clauses with “where,” “which,” and “although,” and your meaning is generally understandable. Some grammatical errors remain, particularly with agreement and verb forms: “five different concerts which was” should use a plural verb, while “all local artists were performed” has an incorrect passive construction. The sentence “what made me more amazed that” is missing a necessary structure, and “Although, what I feel there are less arrangements” is difficult to follow because the clause is not formed correctly. There are also issues with articles and singular/plural forms, as in “one of the concert.” Review sentence patterns after linking words and check that subjects and verbs agree; this will make your varied structures more controlled.
