Student answer (Band 5.5)

Dear Sir/Madam,

I am very happy to share my thoughts regarding the 1st day of concert that I have attended without paying a single penny. Overall everything was well organised and nicely preplanned.

I enjoyed the concert because there was big screens all around and each and every individuals were setting on their own chairs and every one was enjoying the current moment without creating any hustle for anyone.

One suggestion I would like to give is that people should not be allowed to bring food into the hall because there were no any garbage bins in the hall and people were throwing the trash on the ground which looks very annoying and it would be difficult to clean it. Overall it was the great effort to bring smiles on the people faces who cannot afford to go outside.

Overall it was the great experience and I enjoyed alot.

Yours faithfully,

ABC

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.0

You address the main purposes of the letter: you give feedback on the concert, explain what you enjoyed, and offer a suggestion for next summer. The enjoyment is supported with details about the large screens and audience members sitting in chairs without disturbing others. However, you do not identify which concert you attended beyond saying it was the “1st day,” so the council may not know which event you mean. Your improvement suggestion focuses on restricting food because of litter, but it would be more useful to explain how this could be implemented or suggest an alternative, such as providing more bins. The positive comments are relevant, though some are general rather than developed.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.0

The letter has a recognisable structure, with an opening, comments on the concert, a suggestion, and a closing. The ideas are generally easy to follow, and phrases such as “One suggestion I would like to give” signal a change in purpose. However, the second and third paragraphs each contain several ideas joined together, making the progression less clear. The repeated use of “Overall” in the opening and closing also makes the linking feel mechanical. Consider separating your positive feedback from the practical suggestion and using clearer references to connect the litter problem with your proposed solution. This would make the organisation more controlled while preserving the letter’s clear overall arrangement.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.0

You use enough vocabulary to communicate the main points, including “well organised,” “big screens,” “garbage bins,” and “throwing the trash.” However, several choices are unnatural or imprecise, such as “1st day of concert,” “current moment,” and “bring smiles on the people faces.” The phrase “without paying a single penny” is understandable but informal for a letter to the council, while “hustle” does not clearly express the intended idea of disturbance. These noticeable collocation and word-choice problems limit precision. Aim to use natural phrases suited to public feedback, such as describing the atmosphere as “enjoyable” or saying that attendees “did not disturb others.”

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0

You attempt both simple and longer sentence forms, and the main message remains understandable. Some grammatical errors occur in the longer sentences, particularly with articles, agreement, and plural forms. For example, “there was big screens” should use a plural verb and an article, while “each and every individuals were setting” has a mismatch between the singular determiner and plural noun, as well as an incorrect verb form. In “there were no any garbage bins,” the negative construction is also inaccurate. The final sentence, “I enjoyed alot,” needs a space and a more complete grammatical form. Check agreement and article use, and break long sentences into shorter units to improve accuracy.
