Dear Sir or Madam,
Student answer (Band 7.0)
Dear Sir,
I am writing this letter to sincerely thank you and the legal council for organising a series of free concerts in the local park. From the selection of the performers to the management of the concerts were up-to the mark and provided the community a chance to had perfect summer evenings.
I particularly enjoyed the concert of Atif Aslam, my favourite singer and one of the living legends. It was my first time watching him singing live in front of me. That experience alone worth the most. Since the management of the concert was top-notch, I was able to enjoy every second of his performance without worrying about anything. I got a place closer to the stage where the enthusiasm and energy of the singer I could feel personally. I even got the chance to sing along when he passed his mic to the audience, that indeed was a moment to cherish for the rest of my life.
I am looking forward to the next summer's concerts as notified on the local council's website. If it could help, my only suggestions for the next events are, increasing the parking space and have more food carts. The current event had very limited car spots available and people had to park their cars four blocks away from the concert point. Also, the variety of the food options were also limited. With these improvements in place, I am sure that the upcoming summer's concerts will be one of the events which people will cherish for their rest of the lives.
Thanks,
Hayyan Tahir

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 8.0
You cover all three requirements clearly: you identify Atif Aslam’s concert, explain your enjoyment through the live performance, proximity to the stage and chance to sing along, and suggest more parking and food carts. These details make the positive feedback specific and relevant, and the closing explains how the changes could benefit future audiences. The ideas are well developed overall. To make the response even more complete, clarify the opening reference to “the legal council,” which is confusing in this context, and make the suggestions slightly more actionable—for example, propose additional parking arrangements or a wider range of food vendors. The letter maintains a consistently appreciative purpose and addresses the council appropriately.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 7.0
The letter has a clear progression: an opening thank-you, a paragraph describing the concert, and a final paragraph offering suggestions and looking ahead. This organisation makes the purpose easy to follow, and linking expressions such as “Since,” “Also,” and “With these improvements in place” help connect ideas. The concert paragraph is particularly coherent, moving from seeing the singer live to the stage experience and audience participation. Some connections are less smooth: “If it could help” does not clearly introduce the suggestions, and “Also” is followed by a repeated “also.” The final paragraph also combines future plans, parking, food options and a broad concluding claim. Use more precise transitions and separate the suggestions into clearly signposted points to make cohesion more flexible and less repetitive.
Lexical Resource: Band 6.5
You use a suitable range of vocabulary to convey enthusiasm and give feedback, including “top-notch,” “enthusiasm and energy,” and “a moment to cherish.” These choices make the account vivid, and the parking and food-cart suggestions are expressed clearly. There are also attempts at less common or emphatic language, such as “one of the living legends,” though this sounds overstated for a formal letter. Some word choices and collocations are inaccurate or awkward: “legal council” appears to be an unintended choice, “the experience alone worth the most” is not idiomatic, and “concert point” is unclear. “Up-to the mark” is also less natural than a standard phrase such as “up to standard.” Aim for precise, natural collocations and a consistently appropriate level of formality.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 6.0
You use a mix of simple and more complex sentences, including clauses beginning with “Since” and “where,” and most of the message remains understandable. However, some errors in verb forms, agreement and sentence construction prevent consistently accurate control. For example, “provided the community a chance to had” should use a correct verb pattern, while “That experience alone worth the most” is missing a finite verb. In “the enthusiasm and energy of the singer I could feel personally,” the word order is awkward, and “increasing the parking space and have more food carts” does not use parallel grammatical forms. There are also punctuation issues around the suggestions and some long sentences that would benefit from clearer boundaries. Review verb patterns and make coordinated items grammatically parallel.
